4/ Been thinking about this a lot lately. Many outside right now with extreme medical vulnerabilities. Our neighbors & our community members.
We are doing all we can, but so many will be outside on the coldest nights through the winter. Cruelty of our states shelter policy is taking lives.
3/ That day all of our gear ripped, one rain storm and we no longer had rain gear. This happens to people outside every day and there is no way for them to get dry, get new gear. The suffer impacts if hypothermia, frostbite and more.

2/ I was there with, Josh Lisenby, co-founder of founder of EHVT & at that time chronically homeless for 6 years. He is now housed. Important to all of us to say out loud that WE were not suffering the impacts.
We were led through this by Josh. We would not have made it without him.

1/ yesterday would have been our 4th night, 4 years ago, it poured rain we were soaking wet. All our stuff soaking wet. Within a few hours we were able to get dry. SAME day over 2000 experiencing homelessness did NOT have people drying their belongings or bringing them food.

1/ Right now 4 years ago we would have been falling asleep on the State House Steps. The first night that the temperatures dropped a little. Just to the 40's & I was cold, did not handle it well. I also was a little scared. I was not experiencing homelessness, just a tiny window into it.

2/ We had no idea 4 years ago 1 night would turn into 27 & then more than 4 years. That thousands of people would return to shelter because of the actions of 3 regular people. It was on the steps that we started our hotline, because people would find us there and ask for help.

1/ End Homelessness Vermont was born of necessity. 4 yrs ago yesterday we spent our first night on Statehouse steps. Now we serve over 2000 people/year, ongoing support to over 500 with disabilities & 196 with extremely high needs.
