On a downtown street in Minneapolis, as people stream out from the massive march, Mary Tyler Moore says “fuck ice.”

A TV Guide “close-up” listing for the series premiere of ABC’s “Batman” series on January 12, 1966:

“Criminals are a superstitious, cowardly lot, so my disguise must be able to strike terror into their hearts. I must be a creature of the night…”
With those words, millionaire Bruce Wayne launched his vengeful battle against crime in a 1939 issue of Detective Comics. When crime strikes, Wayne and his young ward Dick Grayson don the guises of Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder to fight the forces of evil.
Aiding the Dynamic Duo are the dreaded, glowing Bat Signal, the nuclear-powered Batmobile and the Batcave, “the greatest anti-crime laboratory in the world.”
Tonight: Batman and Robin head for Gotham City to renew their battle against the Riddler, who is once again baffling the police with his criminal wizardry. (To be continued Thursday, 7:30 P.M.)
Tonight’s show was written by Lorenzo Semple Jr. The series, based on the adventures of Bob Kane’s comic-book hero, stars Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin. Other regulars… Commissioner: Neil Hamilton. Alfred: Alan Napier. O’Hara: Stafford Repp. Aunt Harriet: Madge Blake.
Guest cast: The Riddler: Frank Gorshin, Molly: Jill St. John.

Superman, Star Wars, Star Trek, X-Men.

If you are upset because you think your favorite characters are woke or the stories are progressive, then I’m sorry to say but you never understood the characters or the stories. Comics are political. Sci-Fi is political.

A child whose world is lost when politicians reject science.
A baby sent across an ocean of stars to seek the safety of another land.
A refugee embraced by America who uses his great power to help everyone on Earth.
A kind and humble hero who challenges a cruel and narcissistic billionaire.
A man who can be anything who chooses to be a journalist for truth and justice.
A symbol of hope pushing back against fear.
A smile. A friend.
This is the time for Superman.

The Marchand piece comes off quite poorly, and he never really makes his case. He took one slightly self-congratulatory quote from Reali (on a well-deserved farewell media tour) and turned it into a mean-spirited takedown.

Also, I disagree with you on this being a show for young people.

As usual, the #PennRelays distance medley was a thriller. The University of Washington’s Nathan Green outkicked the field to give the Huskies their first Penn men’s title. @pennrelays.bsky.social

Wow. Unbelievable world indoor record in the 3000 meters for Grant Fisher at the #MillroseGames at the Armory. 7:22.91 to outkick Olympic 1500 champ Cole Hocker. 🔥
