Your published work is a performance! And while you should still be forgiving of yourself (lord knows I look at my early work and see things that could be improved), you should still give yourself private space to mess up and better yourself. Don’t immediately post everything online! That’s my $.02.

Visual artists, like musicians and athletes, need time and space to practice and mess up outside of public scrutiny.

I think there’s a real danger for young egos (and whose ego isn’t young? lol) that visual arts exist forever and are digestible in seconds while, say, violin practice vanishes into the ether. No one hears the 100s of hours of music practice/nor would take time to listen to recordings of it.
