Did you know you can easily access the images from an old Keynote presentation by changing the file extension from .key to .zip and opening up the zip folder? Inside will be a data folder with full size and thumbnail size versions of everything in your presentation.

I had changed this a long time ago to debug something and recently had the same site up in 2 different browsers, each on their own monitor, and thought my monitors were calibrated incorrectly. I went through calibration twice and chalked it up to "well, this monitor is just better than the other"

good way to troll a designer (or in my case, myself) — change this setting in one of your browsers and forget about it for 6 months

Do you think this random Amazon phone accessory manufacturer would care if I lift their entire brand for my design portfolio presentations?

I feel like they have an even deeper ecosystem moat than Apple. Like I use Macs and an iPad but I have no problem also having PCs and a Google TV and a Pixel watch.

But the fact that I have a random 10Gbps Mikrotik switch in my network *bothers* me even if I know it does the same job.

Consumer tech could stand to learn a lot from the Ubiquiti design team. It gets overlooked because most people aren't familiar with their product experience unless you work in IT or are a big ol' nerd who treats their home network like its a small business.

Half serious question: if you have to give a half dozen or more portfolio presentations over a short period of time and everyone wants to see different things would it be cool to do a single choose your own adventure slide deck?

We used to joke at 18F about how impossible it was to do work that cost less than a million dollars but more than $4k (the purchasing card limit). The administrative burden of contracting was so high the middle ground wasn’t worth it.

Jokes aside, I’m genuinely grateful for all the people who have connected me to exciting opportunities. Wouldn’t have planned for my “hey I don’t have a job anymore” post to be my most popular post on this platform but it could be worse.

Somehow I’ve ended up with more meetings in my first week of being unemployed than my last 3 months of having a job.

Possibly! Let me think about it a bit and review your one PR. I hadn’t put a ton of thought into how I want this to be usable for others. I was originally just putting the code up for reference but I like the idea of making it more generic.

Every time I get mad at a piece of software for being buggy yet refuse to submit any bug reports I have to remind myself that an untold number of people using stuff I built are doing the exact same thing.

Certainly not the first one of these to exist, nor do I think the code is without flaws, but the cost of making random tools has gone wayyyy down.

If it only takes a few min/hours, build the thing that helps you build the things.

Yesterday was my last day at Deno.

I'm sad to leave but I'm proud of everything the team and I were able to build. I'm glad I had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented people I've met. I wish them all the best!

Yesterday was my last day at Deno. It's rare you get to work with so many highly skilled peers in one place, but I'll be now cheering from the sidelines.
