That homily preaches more fiery, roll on the floor, dance around the sanctuary truth than almost any other preacher I’ve ever heard.

And here we remember the generosity of the vineyard owner, who pays us eleventh hour workers the same way as those who showed at dawn.

After graduation, I audited courses in Lutheran liturgy and Ecumenical liturgics at the same school.

Two*. Anglican.**

* in addition to the practical liturgical training provided in chapel and two required courses in field ed.

** 2/3 core courses in church history and 1/4 core courses in systematics involved heavy engagement with the BCP.

At Society for Pentecostal Studies annual meeting. Back on my BS.

I’m about to tell Pentecostals to get liturgical while inviting them to throw the BCP into the (refiner’s) fire.

I know I know “Not all Episcopalians,” etc etc.

But I have seen/experienced both of these first hand. 💁🏻‍♂️

Episcopal hazing usually involves inviting someone over for dinner and setting the table for a high class meal, with multiple types of forks, spoons, etc but loading the table with all the courses at once.

Extra hazing if one is sober/abstinent: massive amounts of alcohol at a church gathering.

Sabres (Luther / Dolphins) and Bruins (Hooker / Patriots).

This is a bit like when the Miami Dolphins played the New England Patriots in American football: yes, the Patriots were technically better but the fanfare accompanying the Dolphins victory was a lot more fun and made more people happy.

The key discernment for me is the role these things play. Does the gift constitute proof of God’s goodness for the one enacting it? Do those receiving it feel knowing God’s love is only possible by continued manifestation? If so, big ol red flag. If it flows FROM those things? Man, I’m comfy.

I swear all the early 2000s Calvinist theobros got a dose of clericalism or something and took their beards and went to get Chrismated because they are still mad, restrictive and loudest online.
