LAHSA CEO resigns.
"The move follows a series of harsh audits and a judge’s rebuke of the job LAHSA officials have done in recent years at managing and tracking spending — including an inability to properly account for billions in taxpayer dollars."

The Afterlives of the Bhagavad Gītā: Readings in Translation by Dorothy M. Figueira (2023), 222-223.
“It is a common fallacy, especially prevalent today, that only the uneducated indulge in extreme and/or fascistic belief structures. It is also true that the more brutal enforcers of Nazi policies tended not to come from the ranks of the criminal classes, but from the educated caste; there were a large percentage of lawyers, scientists, and university professors who joined in enthusiastically in Gestapo atrocities.” The Afterlives of the Bhagavad Gītā: Readings in Translation by Dorothy M. @calmatters.org "first requested the reports in January 2024.
LAHSA refused to release them and argued that the reports fall under 'attorney-client privilege,' though the documents are created by contract shelter operators, not attorneys."

After the Tubbs fire, 21,482 people were living temporarily doubled-up.
Of those, 40% said they were living that way because they lost their housing as a direct result of the fire.
Another 11% said they lost their housing because their landlord moved in or the rent increased because of the fire.

Paradise passed an ordinance allowing survivors to live in trailers or RVs on their properties while they rebuild.
Rebuilding took years as people waited for insurance, federal funds & a settlement with PG&E.
100 trailers remain.
The town will soon have to figure out how to remove those trailers.

"Each fire threatens to raise already sky-high home insurance rates, making rebuilding or buying a new home even more prohibitively expensive."

"Renters in undamaged buildings get evicted because their landlord raises rents to take advantage of refugees’ desperation — or because the landlord lost another home in the fire and needs to move into their rental unit."

After the 2018 Camp Fire destroyed much of the rural town of Paradise in Butte County, the "fire also made life more difficult for people who were already #homeless in Paradise.
Before the fire, the town had a few homeless #shelters operated by local churches.
Those are all gone now...."

There is nuance in the comments, but the point stands:
Subways are SAFER THAN AIRPLANES.
"A record # of Americans are living outside. Cities respond by removing encampments.
Workers take people’s belongings incl. important docs, survival gear & irreplaceable mementos.
People told ProPublica they were devastated.
We gave them notecards so they could explain how sweeps have affected them"

"Higgins... interviewed scores of veterans still imprisoned & out of jail...
One common theme among those who end up in legal trouble is the feeling of being betrayed and abandoned. That’s because they’ve been denied the services & benefits—or opportunities for citizenship—promised by... recruiters"
"[A]bout one third of all veterans, who number 19 million, report having been arrested and booked into jail at least once in their lives, as compared to less than one-fifth of the rest of the population.
When they end up incarcerated, veterans receive longer sentences than non-veterans"
Meanwhile, people experiencing homelessness are cited for trespassing every day, with some tickets going to warrant.
10 people were arrested for trespassing just at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, CA over two months. Among all arrested, 52% were Latinx & 24% were Black.

Hoping those good habits pay off for you further this new year!
I would love to see bird feeders everywhere and am just reporting what L.A. is saying- i am no scientist or anything.
What they posted is not a law, i don't believe, but perhaps they are recommending it because there are circumstances different than other places? I am unsure.
Los Angeles County Public Health "encourages residents to follow these best practices" "to Reduce Risk for the General Public":
"Remove Bird Feeders and Baths: Take down bird feeders and communal bird baths to reduce the risk of the virus spreading from bird-to-bird."
