Thanks for joining us this morning!
We're on our way for an exciting and energized show on Tuesday evening here in Boulder, CO!

What if one of the most powerful climate solutions isn’t technology—but conversation? This week in Talking Climate, we're talking about hairdressers inspiring climate convos, war supercharging emissions, and more positive content creators to follow. Read on!
CIRES Fellow @maxboykoff.bsky.social notes that in 2025, media coverage of climate change went down by 14% -- and by 38% since 2021. Read the story in azcentral: www.azcentral.com/story/news/l...

@agu.org has made it easy:
On Friday, Jan. 23, the United States National Science Foundation posted (NSF) a “Dear Colleague Letter” on its website stating that NSF “invites concepts for efficient and cost-effective operations and management of atmospheric observational platforms, cyberinfrastructure and computing capabilities, and community training on weather and space weather modeling and forecasting.” This brazen message requests expressions of interest in and/or concepts of operation for National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) space weather activities, weather modeling and atmospheric observing capabilities and specifically “ownership of the NSF NCAR Mesa Lab (located in Boulder, Colorado) for public or private use.” "Plans to shutter NCAR are misguided. Through this call to destruction, we effectively squander opportunities here in the U.S. for security, prosperity and positive change. Execution of this action will threaten habitability, water and air quality, environmental and public health, as well as national security and prosperity. We must instead re-commit ourselves to collective, just and resilient futures and stop this special-interest sabotage" 'Dear National Science Foundation" is my latest sustainability & environment column in the local Boulder Daily Camera (Feb 28 2026 print edition) with open-access gift link here https://lnkd.in/gayhdfhN There is a letter-writing period now open until March 13. Submitted documents must be limited to “2-3 pages in length per topic addressed.” Responses can be sent to NSF_NCAR@nsf.gov. I welcome you to weigh in with your views. For potential guidance, here is my letter: Dear National Science Foundation, I write as an individual private citizen of this country. My views expressed here are personal views and should not be considered as representing organizations at this time. I reject the premise of this call for the breakup and breakdown of these platforms, activities, capabilities and collaborations in these challenging time…

"Journalists may be hesitant to connect the dots between ecological and meteorological events, like wildfires, and a changing climate due to the ongoing politicization of climate science."

As we witness climate obstruction in real time at #COP30, this @cssn.org presser w/ @timmonsroberts.bsky.social, @daniellefalzon.bsky.social, @maxboykoff.bsky.social and Carlos Milani to discuss a new global assessment on climate obstruction is rather timely.
Details: cssn.org/news-researc...
Technocratism dominates the COP30 approach to the climate crisis, with language and framing that can obscure other ways of knowing: "Emotional, experiential, aesthetic, or even just visceral ways of understanding that something’s not right," said @maxboykoff.bsky.social
You can find @aronczyk.bsky.social and @maxboykoff.bsky.social's chapter, "Steering the Climate Discourse" here: cssn.org/wp-content/u....
In it, they explore the themes of legitimizing climate denial, oil & gas working with legacy news agencies, and more.
A large circle of swirling clouds rotate around a clear center indicating a hurricane.
In his Boulder Daily Camera Opinion column, @maxboykoff.bsky.social notes the similarities between Hurricane Melissa in 2025 and Hurricane Mitch in 1998. "27 years separate them, yet climate connections persist." Paywall: buff.ly/5JUr8pl #hurricanemelissa
BIG launch this week--the book is available, free, online at our @cssn.org website:

An important conversation. Thanks @drilledmedia.bsky.social and @aronczyk.bsky.social larger book project led by @timmonsroberts.bsky.social (Brown University), Jennifer Jacquet (University of Miami), Carlos Milani (Rio de Janeiro State University) & Christian Downie (Australian National University)
Said it before, will probably die saying it, we are never going to solve the climate disinfo problem if we don't fix media. As @maxboykoff.bsky.social notes here, the public by and large learns about climate change via the media, so if the media trades in false equivalence, it's damaging!
I look forward to reading these new research insights.
Happy to chat.
