Man in black shorts and purple tshirt stands in the sunshine in front of the Royal Palace in Madrid
Madrid! โ๏ธ
Tomorrow we're off on our holiday to Madrid, Bilbao and San Sebastian. My AS Level Spanish has ebbed away a bit but I've been listening to a lot of Rosalรญa.
Basically I'd now struggle to ask for directions but could tell you to "sprinkle brown sugar on my coffin" perfectly.
Watching the DadSwap sketch next to my actual dad was an experience #snlUK
Alex's Thatcher tattoo is a bit of a giveaway I guess
The Peepshow - The Murders at 10 Rillington Place by Kate Summerscale
Book 17 of 2026 - The Peepshow by Kate Summerscale. A fascinating true crime deep dive into a British murder case I wasn't familiar with, with a look at the misogyny, racism and brutality of British society in the 40's and 50's.
Marinated some cod in lime juice, garlic and ginger, then coated them in a spicy gram flour batter and fried them up for amritsari fish burgers. Slapped, tbqh.
Not Catholic. Not even raised Catholic. Nan was brought up Catholic, and despite her passing away about 16 years ago I still choose to not do any meat on Good Friday. I think I just enjoy a cheeky little food ritual every now and again.
I'm at a Starbucks to do some writing and their music is bad and loud so I'm rocking the Loop earplugs AND white noise playing out of noise cancelling headphones over the top combo.
It's lovely.
Possibly a perfect adaptation. Cried 3 times.
Loved it!
I absolutely adored Project Hail Mary when I read it last year. I am in the cinema, sat and ready. I have high hopes!
A row of colourful beer cans from Vault City lined up on a wooden counter top
When we were in Edinburgh I very tragically tripped and fell into the taproom/bottle shop of my favourite brewery, Vault City, who make incredible sours. Here are the girls.
Aditional KCSIE consultation guidance. We can not stress the importance of having our voices heard in this.

A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers
A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers
Books 15 and 16 - the Monk and Robot duology by Becky Chambers. A re-read for Leeds Queer Book Club, these hit even harder the second time around. Solarpunk masterpieces.
What I Ate in One Year (and related thoughts) by Stanley Tucci
Book 14 - What I Ate in One Year. Stanley Tucci's diary of one year through the lens of food, family and travel was wonderful and lifted by his dulcet tones as an audiobook. Made me hungry.
Strange Pictures by Uketsu
Book 13 - Strange Pictures. Starts off as a series of unconnected mystery stories where drawings and pictures are central to you as the reader solving them. Slowly a creepy, connecting narrative starts to build. Could have felt flat and gimmicky but this was a lot of fun.
Friendly reminder
House of Splinters by Laura Purcell
Book 12 - House of Splinters. A prequel to a book I read a couple of years ago. Spooky Georgian thriller about probably haunted, possibly murderous lifesize freestanding wooden portraits (dummy boards/silent companions). Atmospheric and creepy.
Pizza with chicken and green peppers
Cheeky little homemade pizza because it's Friday
This is still free to watch for the next couple of days and I can't recommend it enough. Absolutely loved it.
A man in a purple t-shirt takes a group selfie on a train with a man in glasses and a woman with dark hair, drinking bucks fizz from paper cups
Three men with drinks smile at the camera in a bar
The same three men in a bar. The man on the left is covering his mouth while the other two men turn to look at him
Kesha on stage with dancers
Had a genuinely lovely day yesterday in Manchester with friends, capped off by seeing Kesha absolutely blow the roof off Aviva Studios. And no hangover today!! ๐
We have written to Wes Streeting over the fact that his decision to pause the trial seems to have been based entirely on a letter whose author has now been recused due to bias.
A man in black jeans and a grey shirt standing on a stage in front of a large screen, next to a lectern
Had a lovely day supporting at an event put on by a colleague and being shoved onto the stage multiple times to be a professional rent-a-gob
Thirst traps soundtracked by probably the world's most heartbreaking song is sending me west
