The greenest home isn’t just one with solar panels - it’s one that’s located in a walkable, transit-rich neighborhood. To celebrate Earth Day, let’s commit to building Transit-Oriented Communities that make sustainable living the default in CT, not the exception.
We know reforms must be more cautious. But we still see parallels with zoning reform, and believe changes are needed if we want to build prosperous, equitable and sustainable communities!
The message is clear - our building codes are still not suited for the kinds of in-fill development that we want. We understand that building codes have a more rational basis in engineering than zoning.
@peteharrison860.bsky.social @kennyredstuff represented @rpa.org, @prohomesct.bsky.social and @welcomingneighbors.us at the 2026 ICC Building Code public hearing supporting single stair reform alongside @stephenjacobsmith.com (which won passage and on to the next step for nationwide adoption!!!).
This is how you do it! 🎉

Of course, as former Connecticut Commissioner of Housing Evonne Klein mentions later on in the interview, we’ve still got a lot of work to do — but it proves that we CAN make progress!
⭕️ Did you know that Connecticut used to put ZERO dollars towards housing? We used to rely entirely on the federal government for housing — that changed under Governor Malloy.
🏘️ HB 8002 represents momentum for the pro-homes movement — but we didn’t get here in a vacuum. How did we get to place where we can pass a bill like this?
Evonne Klein has been in the fight for a while and she’s got some thoughts!
We’re looking forward to these initiatives — go to the link in our bio to contact your legislators today about any and all of it!
📃 What are Majority Leader Jason Rojas’ plans for keeping the pro-homes momentum going in Connecticut?
✅ Implementation of HB 8002
✅ Permitting reform
✅ ”Just Cause” evictions
💡 If you’re interested in getting involved in the pro-homes movement, there are plenty of ways to do so — hear it first from Former Ward 7 Alder Eli Sabin!

✅ SB 151 will cap minimum lot sizes at 5,000 sq ft in areas served by existing or planned public water and sewer infrastructure, reviving the lost starter home in Connecticut

✅ HB 5507 will create more ADUs by reducing construction costs, simplifying the permitting process, and expanding rental income opportunities across CT

👏 Thank you, Scott Burns, for bringing Jeff Speck to Bridgeport to highlight how to make the city more walkable and liveable!
Turns out, it’s not adding more parking…
Excited for the continued progress and growth of CT's largest city!
