If anyone knows of any fellowships (ideally for early career researchers) to stay in the EU or Canada drop me a DM.
Was trying to find a witty way to say this but cannot find it… But when I think of my position as a junior TT faculty member in the US I waffle between feeling like things will pass and feeling like it’s time to start preparing for this to no longer be a safe career.
European Math Friends (and maybe some enemies): did you ever want a chance to hear me speak (or heckle me)?
If so the next few months are a great chance I’ll be in the EU (mostly Germany, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland) and happy to add stops to my itinerary.
What should one keep in a tenure folder and how does everyone organize it?
I think it would benefit us as a field to think of ways we could give people more flexibility and choice in their careers.
TBC: I’ve thought a lot about this and have never come up with an answer better than “be prepared to leave academia” or “be willing to hunker down and live the best you can in a bad situation” but these don’t feel like satisfying answers.
Morning thought:
Given the difficulties of the academic job market (little options, long timeline, etc.) what should a young math person be doing to prepare potentially needing to move because of changing political climates?
Does anyone have any good non-fiction audiobook recommendations?
I guess I’m here now for obvious reasons
