a span of several months and somehow all the endwalker data retroactively increased by at least 10k players per quarter. it's actually ridiculous how often this is taken for solid real data when it is nowhere close

literally every time this census happens the same discourse cycle happens!!! when will people remember that the census methodology is inexact and makes up numbers retroactively as players return!!!! this is how you get charts like this back to back and it's misleading as hell

“You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch.”
― Edgar Mitchell

Image: Earthset captured through the Orion spacecraft window at 6:41 p.m. EDT, April 6, 2026, during the Artemis II crew’s flyby of the Moon. A muted blue Earth with bright white clouds sets behind the cratered lunar surface.
The dark portion of Earth is experiencing nighttime. On Earth’s day side, swirling clouds are visible over the Australia and Oceania region.
In the foreground, Ohm crater has terraced edges and a flat floor interrupted by central peaks. Central peaks form in complex craters when the lunar surface, liquefied on impact, splashes upwards during the crater’s formation.

Waking up to the awe-inspiring images from NASA at the same time the US President is implying that he will commit genocide, I can't think of a better quote for the times than this one from Apollo astronaut Edgar Mitchell. I added it to today's Earthset image:

z.a.t.o. i love the world and everything in it by nopanamaman. great writing, art, wonderful little story (4-6 hours?). asya is a little strange, a little sad, but i liked her a lot. the script and dialogue feel very solid and real, even with the bits of unreality layered over it. i had a good time

the will of the many by james islington. can't go too off the rails with a hypercompetent mc going to not-magic-school. it's hard to buy into most of the tension because he's too good at everything. epilogue has me curious to read the next but i'm not convinced it'll follow up in a satisfying way

the isle in the silver sea by tasha suri. metanarrative love story delivered via the matter of britain, which i'm only vaguely familiar with (and i'm not even sure if the main characters' tale is a reference?). still liked it!

Ahegao by Tony Tulathimutte There is a cairn of shames, towered and teetering on his chest, that the slightest movement could lethally topple.

guy who is self-conscious about his fetishes. funnier than i thought it would be

The Feminist | Tony Tulathimutte His friends, mostly female, told him he was refreshingly attentive and trustworthy for a boy. Meanwhile he is grateful for the knowledge that female was best used as an adjective, that sexism harms me...

a skewering of the "terminally online identity politics self centered bitch attitude"

rejection by tony tulathimutte. short story collection primarily about being rejected by society while chronically internet brained. first three stories were strong, i recommend looking up the ones available online (links in thread). rest of it felt weaker thematically but still a fun read overall.

A heteronormative society & the casual microaggressions make Emiri seek refuge in an inner sanctuary, represented as a beach where waves gently rock her feet. Later, the relationship she's building in spite of it all is initiated through similar gestures. We call this real cinema

It’s Not Complicated The mainstream media failed the public during the genocide in Gaza. The Key's editor-in-chief shares her vision for what comes next.

Former LA Times managing editor @sarayasin.bsky.social launches The Key, a new publication about Palestine that will be "a home for journalists who have had their stories spiked in mainstream outlets."

Her opening essay is worth every second of your time: www.thekeymagazine.com/p/western-jo...

The moon going from full moon to a red moon and starting to go back to a normal full moon, then my camera battery door fell off.

Here's my first edit on the March 3rd Lunar Eclipse. 15 moon shots, 1 foreground. Taken over a 3 hourish period.

its just a lot more convincing when the nation states are fighting over power using claims to natural resources as a thinly veiled excuse and much less convincing when actually god is evil and manipulating them. also whats up with that guy with the oedipus complex huh. whats his deal.

final fantasy 16 + dlc. it was fine i guess. the story was more interesting the more grounded it was, so the first two acts were decent, but the final act going full evil monologuing was a bit of a slog. i also wish jill was not sidelined as much as she was, even with how low my expectations were.

based on what my friends tell me about figure skating, judge bias has been a problem since forever, basically never addressed, and it's especially bad in ice dance. so political!
