Well at least I've long graduated from having to look up English words 🤣

While I constantly look up enough words to express my complex thoughts in Yiddish I find myself thrown back to my time in the school library 30-some years ago... I sure hope it doesn't take me another decade to be able to write without poring over a dictionary

even stacks of issues of Review of International Broadcasting, a small-format newsletter edited and published by Glenn Hauser, fanned out on a wooden table. Visible covers span from 1978 to 1984 and feature a variety of designs including a Radio Beijing illustration, a Radio Australia kangaroo logo, a Radio Peking tower graphic, and black and white photographs. Issue numbers range from 14 to 95.

Deeply embarrassing moment for me as I misheard someone complaining about the "challenges of modern dating," thought they were talking about radioisotope dating for rocks, and said "what, did they discover a new isotope?"

One of the funniest vocab choices I have seen an LLM make in Yiddish so far is using נקודה instead of זינען or עיקר

1 day ago 0 0 0 0

But the above proves LLMs *can* do math, in the academic sense. They just need an enormous amount of supervision and verification to do so successfully, because most of the time they fail.

It's a little ironic, because I keep having to remind my teammates at work that LLMs can't do math, but that's a little misleading.

What I mean, of course, is that LLMs lack a sense of understanding and can't do arithmetic.

From the math community on Reddit: Stunning AI Breakthrough! GPT 5.4 solves Erdos problem on primitive sets by discovering a new method in analytic number theory. Uncovers deep idea with implications ... Posted by 2299sacramento - 848 votes and 209 comments

Reading www.reddit.com/r/math/comme... reminded me a little of a blog I read earlier this year, here: www.daniellitt.com/blog/2026/2/...

The field is still very immature, but it's wild to think we may well be able to do some novel mathematics with the help of LLMs.

I Played 'The Boys Are Back in Town' on a Bar Jukebox Until I Got Kicked Out The boys were back in town, but I was out of the bar, because they asked me to leave.

on the 50th anniversary of the release of The Boys Are Back in Town I'm morally obligated to share my favorite story of all time

I was JUST talking to a manager yesterday about how I've been trying to get my team to stop trying to use LLMs to do math because they literally can't, and if they need to at least get the LLM to write code so it'll be verifiable 🫣

Both QNX and BlackBerry came out of my alma mater (University of Waterloo) so I bring the lore

2 days ago 0 0 0 0

QNX was actually an acquisition and it's still around and kicking as the big commercially viable RTOS that is big in cars. Unfortunately BB10 died and was eventually replaced with Android

BlackBerry OS - Wikipedia

Oh fucking lol. You know I worked there back then, in the QNX days? They first launched it on the Playbook (the tablet) and later developed it into BlackBerry 10. I interned on the Phone app team. Prior to that it was BBOS en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BlackBe...
