DON'T TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS JUST YET!

There has been a lot of information going around about language that was changed in regards to a wall being built in @bigbendnps, @bigbendranchsp, and the Rio Grande WSR.

This change does not say no wall will be built

Daines revives effort to roll back wilderness study areas in Montana The bill identifies three WSAs: Middle Fork Judith, Hoodoo Mountain and Wales Creek, totaling about 100,000 acres.

We need a representative who will help protect #publiclands, not erode them. #MtPol

Once again Senator Lee thinks he can sneak in attacks to our public lands and we won’t notice. And once again, he’s wrong. We’re here, we’re watching, and we’re not letting up.

Great coverage by @kqednews.kqed.org of the "dubiously legal" moves to manipulate NPS staff performance review, as well as planned wage cuts of up to $3.5/hour for Yosemite maintenance employees. The hits keep coming.

Hi! As the creator of the Adopt a Ranger project - thank you for the enthusiasm!

Unfortunately the project has concluded for the holidays, but folks can still sign up for the next round of activism and support for our national parks and their stewards. #parkchat #nationalparks.

Looking for good causes to give to this Giving Tuesday?

Please consider these two wonderful and important nonprofits I’ve had the pleasure to work with during my career:

The Garfield Trail of Ohio

In 28 days, the Adopt a Ranger program received over 1700 volunteers to support our public lands stewards. Some folks had special requests of non-park rangers they wanted to support, too

Exhuming President Taylor President Zachary Taylor died on July 9, 1850, five days after becoming ill at a Fourth of July celebration. He apparently overindulged on raw cherries and iced milk; his doctors cited the cause of…

Was Zachary Taylor the first assassinated president?

Taylor, 12th POTUS, was born on this day 241 years ago: Nov. 24, 1784.

Taylor died in office on Jul. 9, 1850. Here's an article I wrote about the theory he'd actually been poisoned, which led to his body's exhumation for arsenic testing in 1991.

The Assassination of President Garfield, Part II Partisanship, Insanity, and Murder

Okay, for all you “Death by Lightning” fans… Here’s Part II of a two-parter I wrote years ago on President Garfield’s assassination. I posted Part I earlier today.

These were done in conjunction with the 2016 airing of the @pbs.org American Experience documentary “Murder of a President.”

The Assassination of President Garfield, Part I Partisanship, Insanity, and Murder

Calling all “Death by Lightning” fans…Here’s Part I of a two-parter about President James A. Garfield’s assassination.

I wrote this in early 2016 to coincide with release of the excellent @pbs.org American Experience documentary “Death of a President” (in which I also appeared as a “talking head”).

Civil Rights in James Garfield’s Era Garfield Remained Dedicated To African Americans Rights

Since James Garfield is getting a lot of attention these day thanks to “Death by Lightning” on @netflix.com, I’m sharing some older pieces I wrote about him and others of his era.

If you’re wondering why I called my book on the 1880 election “The Last Lincoln Republican,” this one’s for you.

Last spring, ~5,700 employees of DOI bureaus—including ~1,700 NPS staff were forcibly & unexpectedly moved to the “DOI Office of the Secretary,” almost an entire new agency. This huge illegal reorganization was done without congressional approval and included HR, IT, comms & contracts staff.
