Crown is growing up.
We've published Crown's roadmap for the year ahead. It's not just more features, but a stronger engine, better workflows, and the foundations that make real projects possible.

Spent a couple days adding a proper HSV color chooser to @crownengine.org
@crownengine.org is now on Grokipedia. The article contains lots of AI slop, but its weaker sections are easy to spot and ignore, and much of the content is factually accurate. Useful as a quick project overview:

2025 was a year packed with hard work on #CrownEngine. Late nights, tough challenges and endless iterations. But looking back, we're satisfied with all the things accomplished and can't wait to share the highlights in this thread. Let's get into it! π

...and, if that wasn't enough, we also fixed more than 100 issues and added several smaller features along the way! Head over to crownengine.org/news to discover all the exciting changes we made in 2025, and stay tuned for an even more exciting 2026!
Oh! We almost forgot to mention that earlier in October we published a Tech Demo playable online, showcasing some of the newly added features...
The sound subsystem was a bit lacking, so we decided to update it by adding full support for Audio Streaming and OGG/Vorbis playback!
The Project Browser has seen a complete overhaul: now with Global Search, Thumbnails, Sorting Options, improved Drag & Drop and multiple View Modes.
On the Level Editor front, Units can now be saved as prefabs for easy reuse. We even threw in a dedicated Unit Editor to quickly edit and reload prefabs on-the-fly.
A resource importer for the very popular FBX format has been added, with the ability to extract textures, materials, lights, cameras, skeletons and animation clips.
Gameplay programmers will be pleased to know that the Mover component has made into production! Add it to your characters to gain instant and robust collide-and-slide capabilities.
In Crown's latest release, we also added a new State Machine Editor for configuring 3D Skeletal Animations.
We added Shadow Mapping support to all light types! The brightest directional light in the Level uses CSMs, while local lights are packed together in an atlas using a mix of different techniques.
We kicked things off by introducing a brand-new PBR pipeline, complete with a revisited Skybox renderer and new Global Lighting, Fog, Tonemap and Bloom components. Plus, many rendering parameters are now exposed for tweaking via a dedicated .render_config resource.
