Again not a medical doctor but from what I can tell, the highest risk is actually the nails and the nail bed. So wrist gloves are usually perfectly fine.

If you aren’t going to play with gloves, it mainly is increasing risk for Hep C and bacterial infections like shigella (among others).

You should be using an appropriately antiseptic hand wash before washing and between sessions, with as hot as water as you can find and tolerate.

Take care what you touch pre insertion.

For example: no one knows where that sling chain has been before. Rule of thumb: if you wouldn’t lick it, then don’t touch it before you put your hand up someone’s ass.

Base one. Use gloves. Use the right type of gloves. Nitrile. Not vinyl. Fit to your hand. They are cheap on Amazon. Try different types.

Pro tip: Turn them inside out so the textured side is on your hand and not on the hole.
