Haha - yeah, definitely cautious with experimental stuff. I remember working on the prototype for DI2 and we went all in for that voxel lighting in UE4 and then it was canned. Megalights is very promising though!

Yeah the clustering sortof does take care of that but you'll have to make sure to avoid hard edges and lots of UV seams, (which you probably already know). small holes and stuff like grates and chainlink fences are still a problem as they're difficult to cluster.

There's been optimisations and it canbne used on skel meshes too now, however that's still 'experimemtal'. WPO animations have been optimised but are still quite a handfull if you have really high res meshes.

As always most of the unreal festures need adjusting to your project or optimisation. That hasn't changed over the years. There have been some good improvements on the materials side in terms of being able to organise them better. Custom Primitive Data is really dope if you put some work in.

I think the most important thing is to learn of the implications nanite and lumen have on everything else because it means budgets have significantly shifted and that stuff is eating up a lot of frametime. The unreal fest videos are generally pretty good but of course they don't mention the shit.
