Last night, the Big Read kicked off our read through of The Hobbit. If you joined us - thank you! If not, you can catch the recording soon. If you are not a Tolkien Society member, consider becoming one so you can join us as we read through Tolkien’s works! erikjampa.substack.com/p/narrating-...

The 70s/early 80s really missed a huge opportunity in casting Fred Williamson as a live-action Lupin III.
Hell, they could’ve done Jim Brown as Jigen, Jim Kelly as Goemon, and Pam Grier as Fujiko.
The question is who would play Zenigata? Rudy Ray Moore?🤔

Eyewitness video from the scene of today's ICE shooting in California appears to (you guessed it) contradict officials' claims that the man "weaponized" his vehicle. The car is reversing and the agents appear to be well clear of it.
@Ranting_Trans Anyway, here's K.A Applegate, author of Animorphs. photo of K A Applegate wearing a t shirt that says protect trans kids

Proud to share that my PhD student @realtomemanuel.bsky.social passed his VIVA today (the “defense” in the US) with flying colours! He’s now the Rev. Dr. Thomas Emanuel!
His thesis title: “The Tale We’ve Fallen Into: J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and the Post-Christian Quest for Meaning”.
HELL YEAH! CONGRATS to you Rev. DOCTOR!
I have a doctorate in Tolkien studies and theology, I can’t save your life but I can talk to you about Hobbits until death seems preferable anyway

Happy Tolkien Reading Day! I’ll be taking a break to read later today, but for now here’s a preview of what I’ve been prepping for Westmoot! #Tolkien #art
All I’m saying is that the Ñoldor had a multiracial union that embraced other groups whom the Lestanorean Sindar othered. Lestanoreans had a whole slur they made for the Dwarves, they didn’t rock with Northern Sindar, or Men a whole lot either. NTM their hunting down & slaying of the Petty-dwarves.
Months late to this but don’t forget that the Southern Sindar’s racism towards all Dwarves in general, even before the Ruin of Lestanórë.
Lestanoreans: “we’ll call them Hadhodrim to their face but we’ll call them this slur behind their backs bc we don’t wanna fuck up our trade relations.”
I spilled lembas crumbs all over myself watching the war of the ring through the master stone in the Tower of Avallónë & a vanyar teenager shouted "this Úmanyar eating corn bread" & everyone laughed
Loved being able to hear peoples’ favorite Tolkien texts being read in their native tongue during the Tolkien Reading Day event!
Need more readings not in English.
Best of luck on the defense!
Always an honor to read & work alongside my fellow Tolkien friends and fellow fans! And this is like the gathering of all of us

Some readers and scholars act as if JRRT chose every word for maximum precision. That's a lot to claim of the Bible, let alone LotR. He wrote for deliberate ambiguity too, for pure poetry, and for basic functionality. But there's no denying he wrote with care, and this is a perfect, subtle example.
Added & edited a handful or two new entries & made a style change to account for explaining how I derived the names I personally constructed from available resources like Etymologies, PE, & VT.

Update: Today, the Georgia Supreme Court issued an order directing counsel for the state to file a sworn affidavit providing a “complete explanation” for the filings that included non-existent cases and other errors.
I watched The Man Called Flintstone Wednesday and so it made me binge the Derek Flint movies
