Dear #langchat & French teachers, My student has created a survey for his research project. He's analyzing the concept of "le français standard." Your participation would greatly contribute to his research and help him complete his major in French.

Always a pleasure to talk with @lailalalami.com Her marvelous, chilling, powerful new novel, The Dream Hotel, has so much to teach us. Link to our conversation on Speaking Out of Place in thread.
Many thanks to @adriandaub.bsky.social for explaining the significance of the recent elections in #Germany on Speaking Out of Place. Link in thread.
Do yourself a favor & listen to Speaking out of place hosted by @palumboliu.bsky.social. The episode with Azucena Castro and Malcom Ferdinand is brilliant!
Happy Birthday 🎊
Kaveh Akbar most recently published a novel, “Martyr!”, but he began his career as a poet. He recommends four collections by Palestinian writers, each of which grapples with the status of being Palestinian in the world.
Check out this episode of the Speaking Out of Place podcast. How #poetry and #art can help mend the double fracture of #colonial and #environmental violence. Link in thread.
Just some small reflections on challenging sex realist feminism. I hope to share some research findings on this movement soon. Title of this one is 'inspired' by a J K Rowling tweet. For all the noisy parts out there! Keep being noisy! feministkilljoys.substack.com/p/a-noisy-part

An outline of a human with their brain and heart connected by hearts.
Very happy to share our 2024 transdisciplinary book Resisting the Dehumanization of Refugees, which brings together academics, practitioners and refugees. It's open access so you can download the pdf for free or purchase a hard copy here: www.aupress.ca/books/120327...

Yes, someone on here tried telling me that it was "unfair" to single out data centers when agriculture was consuming far more water than data centers, I still cannot comprehend the level of AI-brain it takes to offer that comparison as valid and useful bc afaik you can't eat the output from LLMs
This is precisely the ignorance and attitude that contributes to the systematic defunding of the humanities.
Not only do people trained in STEM not know what we do in the humanities, they automatically dismiss it without even bothering to learn what the humanities are about.
Not to mention that this turns kids instantly into unpaid laborers in a data mining enterprise and teaches them servility to tech at the get-go, giving up all rights to privacy for the sake of capitalist success.
@disabilitystor1.bsky.social I recently interviewed Lindsay Weinberg on her great book, “Smart University.” Highly recommended. The interview is forthcoming on the Speaking Out of Place podcast. Robert Ovetz joined us to talk about AI and educational workers.
This was always the goal: remove human teachers from classrooms in schools and universities, except for the very rich who will be able to afford human instruction.
This is why I have only contempt for teachers in higher ed who use AI in their courses--this is what you are actively escalating.
Yasss! The Feminist Killjoy Handbook is a must-read, especially for womenx of color from the Global South. I cried, screamed, laughed, paused, reflected, felt energized. I can’t wait to read this new gem from the best feminist killjoy, the one & only @saranahmed.bsky.social
May your aunt rest in peace. Sending you and your family serenity & patience.

Image of the tops of books in a herringbone pattern. They are in a rainbow gradient. The center of the image has a green textbox with the words "Resources for fighting book censorship, library challenges, and more."
A massive thread of resources, history, information, and material to help you not only fight and understand book censorship but protect the incredible democratic institutions of public libraries and public education.
