An SCT will probably be best yeah. Focal length is king for planetary, the longer the better. To hit the sweet spot I was thinking maybe a 9.25”.

The California Nebula. Bright, glowing dust clouds stretch across the frame, surrounded by stars. A blue glow of oxygen can be seen rising from a large expanse of red, orange, and yellow gases.
The California Nebula, named after the state its shape mimics. It took two nights to photograph this nebula using narrowband filters.

On the other hand, maybe I finally have the excuse I needed to get a big SCT for planetary imaging, now that I won't have to haul my gear down and up the stairs every time.
In other news, I'm finally going to have my own place: no more parking lot photos. The only bad part is its surrounded by very tall trees so my patch of sky just got significantly smaller.
