Other than that, I just wonder about the economics. Adding ads to a site trades some (hopefully minor) user annoyance with sustainability for the author, so it would need to be profitable enough to be worth it. Id be interested in a blog post covering how that worked out :)

So long as it's text-only and not hurtful to the eyes, I think it's fine. I feel much more comfortable with ads that reflect a direct author to sponsor relationship than one mediated by an intermediary who is just serving me ads based on tracking me online.

So I wouldn't mind it!

Poor Deming never stood a chance This post is an elaboration of a shorter post I wrote about five years ago. The two management giants of the mid-twentieth century were Peter Drucker and W. Edwards Deming. Ironically, while Drucke…

Whenever the topic of OKRs comes up, I think about Drucker vs Deming. Not a particularly topical thing to write about, but I think it's evergreen.

Related aside -the oxide and friends episodes on the terraform debacle articulate very well how to think of the role of OSS in a business. I enjoyed those so much I missed a flight (and I was already at the airport, just distracted!!)

Been thinking about a NAS too. Ive also been warned synologys recent stunts, but Im also interested in a system that will "just work" to get me started, so I'm personally leaning towards them still.

lmao, I'll have to check more of these guys out, this is amazing.

This is a superb article! I appreciate that it resists the temptation to engage with the more extreme aspects of the discourse, and the focus on the student audience, which I have to assume is stressed out with the market right now.

Folks are here, but it's a slightly different crowd. PL twitter was pretty cool because (it felt like) everyone was there, whereas now we're a lot more spread out. I definitely recommend checking out mastodon once in a while, many old faces still chatting there! But bsky is my main "twitter"

3 months ago 3 0 0 0

Yup. On occasion I log back onto mastodon and there does seem to be quite a bit of activity. I could just never get the mobile client to work right - it would fail to log new posts rather often, not sure if that was because I was relying on an indie server (which is great, but maybe overburdened?).

I'll hop on to the self-plug - I work in C++ these days, was previously doing some program synthesis + vm language interop stuff. Been meaning to find PL folks on bluesky again, after the mass twitter exodus lol

We're not asking you to start learning Haskell. We're saying, when the time is right, you will look in the mirror and will already have started learning Haskell.
