In all seriousness – taxes are the price of civilization, as Oliver Wendell Holmes put it. And for strategists, today is a useful reminder that every resource allocation decision has a cost, whether it shows up on your return or not. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some forms to file.

It's Tax Day, and I'm thinking about competitive advantage. Specifically, the IRS has one of the most durable ones I've ever seen. No disruption, no new entrants, and extremely high switching costs. You have to admire the business model.
