NYPD released Q1 2025 shooting data last week showing the fewest shootings through March that they've ever reported (data is available from NYPD back to 2006, but given murder figures it's probably the fewest shooting victims since the early 1960s or earlier).

Good News. The submission deadline for this special issue has been extended to January 31.
Since many researchers are here now, I want to draw attention to a publishing opportunity. Special issue of the Sage journal, Inquiry, focused on violence prevention strategies that leverage community-level mechanisms. Deadline is Jan 11 & I can answer questions.

The latest research note of our project recountingcrime.wordpress.com, published in Significance academic.oup.com/jrssig/artic..., where we highlight the importance of asking about the location of the crime in victimisation surveys.
Researchers look for ways to prevent and reduce violence, but the knowledge base is far from complete, especially as it relates to one important question: are there ways to prevent violence without relying on the police? The obvious answer is “yes.”
