Our very own Mimi Warnick ‘18, Artistic Director of the Delaware Theatre Company, has let her creative juices flow and conceived the new musical: THE CHEQUERBOARD WATCH. We are so proud to see her develop in the industry and share her ideas with the world. Congratulations Mimi!
Learn about black histories in the Beacon Hill neighborhood through augmented reality with artists Elisa Hamilton ’18 and Clareese Hill. They will lead a special walking tour of their public art projects on April 18, 1 pm, followed by a reception and Q&A at The Museum of African American History.

Last month, Emerson College hosted the third annual Mass Poetry Teen Spoken Word Festival with the help of WLP Assistant Professor Porsha Olayiwola. Students shared their works on campus and performed on the big stage. We cannot wait to see what their futures hold! Photography by Jeffrey Vock.
Cinema Emerson is hosting a Commemorative Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) screening of WUNDERKINDER on April 13 at the Bright Family Screening Room. PA Assistant Professor Ilana Toeplitz will moderate a Q&A with Co-Writer and SOF Senior Affiliated Faculty Stephen Glantz after the screening.
The Porter Square Writers in Residence program began in 2019 to support local writers by providing resources needed to write books. This year, our very own WLP Affiliated Faculty Fin Leary, MA ’17 is the Young Adult Writer-in-Residence. Congratulations!
MFA Theatre Ed and Applied Theatre graduate student Yasmeen Duncan is playing Precious ‘Pete’ Watson in the Lyric Stage Boston production of ANGRY, RAUCOUS, AND SHAMELESSLY GORGEOUS. The show is running until the 12th of April so make sure to catch a performance before it's too late!
The PEN Open Book Award recognizes an exceptional book-length work of any literary genre by an author of color. Asako Serizawa, MFA ’01 was one of the judges this year! Announced this week, the award went to Justin Haynes for IBIS, a Caribbean story of migration, superstition, and search for family.
Emerson Contemporary is hosting a student-curated exhibition from March 31st to April 8th. Fourteen undergraduate and graduate students sought out fourteen artists from New England. Join them for the student lightning talks on April 3rd at 12:00pm, followed by the opening reception from 5pm-7pm.
The Mass. Cultural Council has rewarded multiple of our fellow Emersonians with $5,000 grants for each of their creative projects. They were each awarded with literature, arts, or multidisciplinary grants. We could not be happier for you and wish you the best of luck!
Marlboro Institute Affiliated Faculty Christina Kappel's debut novel, BREAK THROUGH will be published in 2027 with HarperCollins under the pen name Christina Carrigan! We're excited to see Kappell's expertise in gender and media channel into fiction.

WLP Assistant Professor Porsha Olayiwola is known for her poetry, performances, and writing. What you may not know is that she served as Boston’s third Poet Laureate. Her poems are what led Boston Mayor Michelle Wu to declare January 23rd as Porsha Olayiwola Day in Boston. We couldn’t be prouder!
Not one, not two, but three of our alumni are currently working on Broadway productions. We are so proud to see Hawa Kamara ‘23, Lucas Babcock ‘23, and Anania ‘22 taking part in HADESTOWN, HAMILTON, and THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, and succeeding just a few years after graduating. Break a leg! #broadway

Our students, with the help of Associate Professor Scott LaFeber, performed a stripped-down version of CHANTECLER alongside Broadway performers Sam Simahk ‘10, Dru Serkes ‘11, and Lauren Chapman ‘13. We love to see our students learning and we hope that being on Boylston brought back happy memories.
The GenAI and Creative Practices Conference was held in Amsterdam last December. We are proud to share that MILAIS Assistant Professor Ioana Jucan and Associate Professor Russ Newman led the roundtable, “Disrupting AI Futures: Critical Creative Interventions in Technology and Society.”
