An opinion I pretty firmly hold is that everyone should make a song, paint a painting, act in something, and write a book even if all of those things end up being objectively terrible

So many of the books I've been reading recently have been among the best works I've ever read, it's really cool

a tumblr ask post. anonymous asked, If this isn't overstepping, do you have any advice for not falling into defeatism? You seem good at having hope for the future. Superdillin answered, It's NOT easy. The world doesn't make it easy. But take a look at someone you love. Or someone who brings you joy, whether you know them intimately or not. Would you want them to give up? At their lowest moment would you tell them there's no point, and that there's no chance that things get better? Likely not, but it's harder to turn that grace inward.

To widen that same concept, make sure you are looking at the overwhelming amounts of people who are helping to make the world better. The food bank operators and the organizers and the caretakers and the volunteers. People who research under-funded illnesses and who vaccinate in their local neighborhoods. People who create art and share it with strangers to feel connection. People who make soup for their sick loved ones and who encourage them to achieve their dreams.

None of those people deserve to be told that none of it is worth it. And the world would be worse if a single one of them gave up. And the world would be worse if you did, too.

“Before Babel the entire world spoke one language” statistic actually false. Most people pre-Babel spoke zero languages. Linguistics Georg, who spoke ten thousand languages per day, was an outlier adn should not have been counted

When a parrot wanted to connect with a distant friend, a touchscreen showed a selection of other birds available online. The parrots learned to activate the screen, designed specially for them, by touching it gently with their tongues rather than pecking aggressively with their beaks.
"We had 26 birds involved," said Hirskyj-Douglas. "They would use the system up to three hours a day, with each call lasting up to five minutes." The interactions ranged from preening and playing with toys to loud vocal exchanges.
"When we went through the data, we found that most of these parrots had favourite friends," said Hirskyj-Douglas.

Pet parrots which typically live alone (whilst those in the wild live in large flocks) were given the technology to call each other. They would use it for up to three hours a day, and developed favourite friends 💔

Children's Spaces With No Children Have we lost our very minds?

“Folks say “I don’t like kids,” as casually as they’d say they prefer Pepsi to Coke. When people say things like “kids are okay, but I just don’t want them around me,” we don’t generally question that. I think we should.”
