And now my annual post-basketball season existential crisis begins.

You guys tell me, I never felt like the coach or the team “lost control” all that many times this year. I don’t mean to draw that contrast, but I do think demeanor (coach/team) won games for Iowa this year. Also, does this make Stirtzy an all-timer? I’m an emphatic yes.

The #Hawkeyes go to the Elite 8 in Ben McCollum's 1st year as UI Head Coach - did it with just 1 holdover from last season's team and ended years of frustration - McCollum is a terrific coach and you have to feel good about the future of Iowa Men's Basketball.

The Hawks finish the season 24-13.

The #Hawkeyes led most of this Elite 8 game but faded down the stretch - went 7+ mins total in 2H without a FG. UI's 3s vs. IL's RBs - in the end the RBs advantage was huge. Stirtz & Wagler were the stars for their teams. Illini headed to the Final 4.

At least we have a coach that uses his timeouts.

The #Hawkeyes have led the entire game, starting with a 12-2 run at the outset - despite 7 mins of scoring drought, UI is shooting 57% FGs (50% 3s). Stirtz has been superb: 15 pts. Illini dominating RBs + has a significant FT disparity over UI. Iowa's D has been solid.

Just in case you need a reminder (probably not) but the #Hawkeyes tip off at 5:09 PM today vs. the Illini in the Elite 8. Gird (and pace) yourselves...

I could have asked if they're playing with just 10 men on the field -- but that's so fresh it might have been too cruel...

Also in the same city that the #Hawkeyes last played in a Final Four. I was there for both games (still played a consolation game back then).

Pretty amazing really.

OK. Two more from tonight's Sweet 16 Victory. Amidst all of the hoop-la (pun intended) I forget to post that the #Hawkeyes improved to 24-12.

Tom Davis is one of the nicest persons I have ever met - in any context. A true gentleman. A great coach. Coached an extremely exciting, up-tempo version of basketball. Bob Bowlsby treated him like crap at the end. #Hawkeyes AD Beth Goetz has restored UI's MBB credibility with her hire of McCollum.

Couple of other thoughts. The #Hawkeyes only led this game for 2:10 - HOWEVER - it was the Final 2:10. Lowest #B1G Seed to ever make the Elite 8 - in history! 1987 was the last time Iowa reached the Elite 8 led by the legendary Tom Davis. Bowlsby firing Dr. Tom was one of the worst decisions ever.
