On Tue 17th March at 10:15 CEST, Prof. Andreas Kirschning (Leibniz Univ. Hannover & Guest Prof. at Uppsala Univ.) will give a lecture titled "On the Usefulness of Useless Knowledge – or How Free is Science Today?" Tune in via Zoom. #science #chemistry www.swedishcollegium.se/archives/upc...

Huge congrats to the newly minted Dr. Barnå, who defended his PhD thesis on Friday! 🍾 Huge thanks to the opponent, Prof Diego Peña (CiQUS/Santiago de Compostela @ciqus.bsky.social) & the committee profs: Berit Olofsson (@bo-lab.bsky.social), Per-Ola Norrby (peonor.bsky.social) & Henrik Sundén (GU).
Huge congratulations to Fredrik, who has nailed his PhD thesis! 🎉 Fredrik will defend his thesis on the 20th of February with
Prof. Diego Peña kindly joining as the opponent.
We should definitely split less of them.

Or... is it?
Some fewer rules to worry about below. (Or... is it less rules, after all?)

On Monday June 23, researchers, educators, industry professionals, and others interested in the chemistry enterprise gathered in Pittsburgh for the 29th annual Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference (GC&E). cen.acs.org/acs-news/mee... #chemsky 🧪
Thanks. Congrats on your recent review - really nice. I'm sorry we didn't get this out a little earlier.
Happy to announce our most recent paper in J. Org. Chem.
We show that several solventless reactions previously done in a ball mill don't necessarily require a ball mill. Congrats to Carolina, Fredrik, Boris, David and Paul! #mechanochemistry

Today was the launch of The Stockholm Declaration on Chemistry for the Future. Leading researchers like Paul Anastas & Ben Feringa signed the declaration to harness chemistry’s full potential as catalyst for a fairer, more sustainable & resilient world

Guessing where ChemDraw structures will land when you copy/paste them.
A gentle reminder that there are just a few days left to apply for the postdoc position in the Pilarski group!

A 2-yr postdoc is available in our group! The successful candidate will have a strong background in organic synthesis and <6 years after a PhD. The research will focus on novel mechanochemical organic reactions. Questions/applications: email Lukasz (address in the pic). Deadline: 7th March 2025.
"That's the molecular formula of a plant!" 🤔
Words of "wisdom" from an ancient technican who was asked about why he is taking absolutely no precautions whatsoever when handling some properly nasty compounds: "Ah, you know how it is. Half the compounds give ya cancer, and the other half cure it." 😐
😧 🤦
Fossil-free energy, or fossil-free feedstocks too, within 10-20 years?
It was a bit hit-and-miss, although perhaps it will improve as more accounts move over. That you can use it with an app-specific password is good (it even recommends it).
In your experience, has the quality of reviewer comments in the past, say, decade, improved, stayed the same or diminished? Quality in the sense of in-depth engagement with the science, thoughtful feedback, etc., constructive suggestions, etc.
How can you be sure the editors chose reviewers from your list? Aren't they free to ignore those suggestions or mix and match? Or, perhaps those reviewers couldn't review the manuscript this time and alternative reviewers had to be approached.
Sounds like all of life, not just chemistry.
Thank you!
Thank you!
We would be very grateful if we could be added to the list. Thanks!
