4 of the hunger strikers are still going. And unless we up the pressure the state is going to get away with killing them. Please read this and use our toolkit to take action.

Reading Rooms at the British Library are closed *all week* because so many of its workers refuse to work for pitiful wages in a contemptuously authoritarian and obliviously managed environment.
We need leaders who get it and are big enough to sort it out!
It’s a mess and a disgrace.
Lift it up!!

1/6 Across 2025 we have posted highlights to celebrate our approaching 10th anniversary. For our final one we spoke to @saramarzagora.bsky.social (@kingscollegelondon.bsky.social), author of "Refashioning the Ethiopian Monarchy in the Twentieth Century" (2022; online 2020). Here are her thoughts:
🚨ANNOUNCEMENT! We've notified KCL that we are balloting members over LOCAL DISPUTE on protection of staff and academic freedom; divestment from companies profiting from genocide; King’s Council reform; and meaningful workplace consultation! #WeAreTheUniversity #WeAreKCL
There is no trade-off between pay and jobs. Don't let the employers fool you otherwise. This dispute is on three things:
1.Pay uplift = at least RPI+3.5% or £2,500, on all pay points
2.Protection of national agreements on T&C's
3.A national agreement to protect jobs & subjects

Hey fellow historians. If you feel, as I do, that the American Historical Association needs serious change, I would consider voting for this slate in the current election.

🚨MASSIVE VICTORY: King’s College Cambridge to divest from all arms and the occupation of Palestine
Today Kings College Cambridge has committed to divest the millions it holds in the arms industry, and in companies complicit in the occupation of Palestine, by the end of the year
KCL UCU sends its solidarity to the students who have, since Monday evening, re-occupied King’s Strand campus quad to protest our university’s continued complicity in Israel’s genocide in Gaza and oppression of the Palestinian people. Our full statement ➡️ docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Glasgow put 80 staff members in the Social and Public Health Sciences Unit in at risk of redundancy in November 2024 as a result of funding withdrawal by MRC and the Scottish Government’s Chief Scientist Office. After a brief dispute in March 2025, the university improved its VS offer for the unit, guaranteed it for all staff at risk of redundancy, and instead is now developing a trial with the branch to move some research staff onto open-ended contracts.
Oh! We so seldom get to share good news!
But Glasgow managed to stave off compulsory redundancies and is developing a trial with the ucu branch to move some research staff onto open-ended contracts. 🥳
It IS possible!

On Monday in Turin I will discuss the launch of an important documentary.
It tells the story of the CALP - a collective of dock workers in Genoa - who, for many years, have been refusing to load ships carrying weapons. True anti-militarist praxis.
Check for 'Portuali' online in the future.
