During this week’s America Reads the Bible, Jerry, Billy, and Tommy will be reading the boobiest parts of the Bible. I hope they can keep it together better than they did when they first came across the book at church camp.
Good thread. Also: I regularly have students read conservative writers such as Milton Friedman and Phyllis Schlafly. Even the more popular stuff like Marabel Morgan. I can’t imagine not doing that.

Help needed! I've assigned an article that we no longer have access to, so I'm up the creek. It's a piece by Peter Beinart from the Oct. 19 1998 issue of the New Republic. The title is "Battle for the 'Burbs." Pages 25-29.
As a beef historian I also study horse slaughter in the 20th century. This is what happened. In 1915, total population in the US as counted by the federal government stood at 21+ million. By 1960 when counting stopped, it was 3 million. The pasture was for beef cattle, not unemployed horses.
Today I asked my students if they knew what a Trojan horse is. One out of twenty knew. Note to self: remember that you’re old and need to explain things.

I remember an acquaintance of mine being ON FIRE because she thought revival would come to Norway because of the film. That was before we entered the theater. I think she regretted it. And revival did not come.

And why I have my job in Oslo (though done in a different way now). This guy was hired to teach American literature in the late 1940s and went on a grand tour in the US to study the country with American money. Also: as an undergraduate, I had teaching material produced by USIA in the 1980s.
I still can’t quite get used to people reading my work! I’m returning to Colorado and the 1990s in a piece due this summer. So much was going on there at the time.

Ja, det er smått. For meg som har folk i livet mitt i disse miljøene, er det likevel alvorlig.
Når det argumenteres for at likekjønnede ikke skal kunne adoptere barn (slik ekteskapsloven ga tilgang til), er det et argument for å rulle tilbake lovverket til partnerskapsloven, om ikke annet.
Det er små miljøer, så de sjansen er liten for gjennomslag. Men det er en sak som står sterkt i visse miljøer.
Det finnes miljøer i Norge der slik argumentasjon forekommer. Der leses den type litteratur som kampanjen i USA bygger på. Om det ikke kommer fram i offentligheten, er det en annen sak. Sjekk ut materialet til Den felleskristne erklæringen.
