A family sets up in front of the detention center, blasting oldies with a live mariachi for their grandfatherโs birthday โ heโs inside.
The reality on the ground is much more heartbreaking than you think.

And no, fuck that festival.
It makes such a big difference building with folks who center people with lived experiences and truly have the heart for this work โ egos get checked at the door and so much good work gets done. Iโm mad grateful for the food spaces Iโm in rn. So much humility and power ๐๐ซ
Iโm already organizing with farmworker women turned farmers who grow food on land they own or lease. Purchasing direct from farms and bringing it into our neighborhoods will really change the game for food access and health. Iโm very excited and so grateful to be part of this!
This has been in the works for the past 2 years. It started as a conversation in a working group thru the L.A. Food Policy Council Food Recovery working group, which quickly blossomed into this cooperative style hub. Weโll be centering our most vulnerable communities while supporting local farms ๐ซ๐ฝ
Started something pretty special today. Hoping to revolutionize the way we move food in Los Angeles ๐ซกโ๐พ๐ฝโค๏ธ
Moving in style thank you to the homies at Tierras Milperas ๐๐๐บ
