Usually the Amtrak line I take is a shorter one so it doesn't have observation or dining cars, today was my first time getting to do table service dining on the Amtrak dining car and sit down dining on a train is a REALLY cool experience

Outside of a few states like CA where they've mandated minimum wage for serving staff, in most of the US 99% of restaurants are able to pay a "tipped wage" which is like $3, so severs usually make less than half minimum wage and are expected to make the the difference in tips.

They have their place but they are a blunt tool incapable of addressing root causes of things like poverty and wage disparity. Boycotts will not lift anyone out of poverty or solve the cost of living crisis or livable wage issues. It won't solve the conditions most restaurants operate under.

Boycotts are actually NOT how you fix things in cases of structural issues, in fact boycotts are largely incapable of instigating real structural change on a meaningful scale. They are not what you need for "real change" when it comes to systemic problems
