As a former Kindle store developer, it’s sad to see support ending for older devices. Fourteen years is a super long lifespan for an electronic device, but people really love their Kindles.

Thanks for covering this and for quoting me! In the interest of full disclosure, I’m also a subscriber of yours on Patreon.
The author, in a purple shirt reading “BUILD MORE SIDEWALKS & BIKE LANES”, reading a public comment in the Seattle City Council chamber, as televised by Seattle Channel
Made my @seattlechannel.bsky.social debut today, giving public comment in favor of more housing in the #Seattle #compPlan. Thanks to @houseourneighbors.bsky.social for coordinating a rally at noon attended by @mayorofseattle.bsky.social and @alexis4seattle.bsky.social, and to all who gave comments!
Mayor Katie Wilson is speaking at the pro-housing rally before Seattle City Council's public hearing on Phase 2 of the City's growth plan later this afternoon.
I’m planning to go to a noon rally for housing, followed by public comment, which starts at 3:00 and will likely stretch well into the night. Going to be a long day at City Hall; glad that I’ll be in a group of pro-housing advocates.
Community members at the Ballard Farmers Market organizing to save light rail to Ballard
If you want to save light rail to Ballard, now's the time to speak up! Tell Sound Transit that they need to build the system we voted for.
Great to see people organizing to make sure our voices are heard. saveballardrail.org
Crowd of people holding “Save Rail to Ballard” signs
Amazing turnout on a sunny Saturday to save Ballard rail! Thank you to everyone who came out to help organize and build the movement. If you couldn’t make it, visit saveballardrail.org to get involved!
Name a better view from light rail (impossible)
In Seattle, supply and demand can be defeated thusly, per Nextdoor:
1. If existing residents are hostile to new ones, they’ll move away and tell their friends not to come here, so demand goes down
2. If we are hostile to builders, supply remains constant
3. Get off my lawn
I’ll be at City Hall on Monday to speak in favor of more housing in more parts of our beautiful city. Want to save the trees? Legalize denser housing, reduce sprawl. Let’s make the city happen.

Ever-increasing sales taxes on the poor, no income tax on the moderately high-earning … can we stop calling ourselves “progressive”, please?
Sound Transit CEO Dow Constantine just announced that 205,000 riders boarded trains on the opening day of the Crosslake Connection, a number that's second only to the Super Bowl Parade.
I still find it strange how ABS calls are reported to “<0.1 inch”. No way is the system that accurate. A call that close to the strike zone boundary should be “call stands”.
It was great to see @milesintransit.com, Jeremy, and Ren at the #CrosslakeConnection opening last week. Such a massive turnout to connect across the lake.
After a week on #MeshCore, I've discovered repeaters all over the #PNW, and noticed a nerdy, diverse, and passionate community in #Seattle. Hopefully I'll never need mesh networking because of mobile network or Internet outages, but I'm glad that I now have it.

I waited 2 hours, part of that with @metropolitanglide.bsky.social of @theurbanist.org, to ride the 2 Line from Seattle to Redmond. The energy level at Judkins Park was off the charts; the people have spoken, and they want more light rail. Build the Damn Trains!
Light rail grand opening at Judkins Park is absolutely huge. It’s rare for so many Seattleites to be this excited about going to Redmond, or to wait in a massive line for the privilege of doing so
This hero risked his life for the benefit of the neighbors around him. He needs help paying his medical bills due to the injuries he sustained from his heroic actions.
He also needs a home. Can we find him a permanent home?

Why would Starbucks be closing a hugely popular store at an iconic Seattle tourist hub?

Oh, it was unionized …
While I think it’s bizarre that federal employees need donations because they’re not getting paid, I appreciate that SEA has withstood the DHS funding crisis as well as it has, with shorter delays than many other big airports.
My Claude app has been encouraging me to use it during off-peak hours, nights and weekends. Everything old is new again!
I’m excited about the prospect of a Sonics return. A privately-funded, in-city, NBA-ready arena already exists, private backers are ready to bid, and local fans are going to snap up tickets, whatever the cost. (If the Kraken’s first few seasons are a predictor of NBA prices, start saving up now.)
If you’ve been considering buying a new wifi router, sooner might be better than later …
I am! Thank you for having such a lovely community 😀
A Heltec V3 wireless radio, in an enclosure, on a desk
Trying out #MeshCore, a decentralized messaging system, with a Heltec V3, a tiny radio. As someone who grew up with IRC, it’s fun to try relay chat with no Internet involved. Unsurprisingly, there are many users in the Pacific Northwest.
I agree that direct car sales are a good thing, but it’s annoying that the WA legislature will have to vote again to let future #EV makers, like Telo and @slateauto.bsky.social, sell direct, when they’re ready.
Correction: the warranty is 8 years, not 10, on the battery system
I "lucked out" with my 2018 Bolt, in that the batteries were all recalled and replaced in 2021, and there was a fresh 10 year / 100,000 mile warranty from the point of replacement. So far, battery degradation fears haven't played out; I've seen 10+ year old Teslas that still get great range.
I love the Ami/Topolino, but it’s going to sell for like $17,000 brand new in the US. I bought a used Bolt EV for that price; it gets about 6x the range, and it’s legal to drive on both local roads and highways.
