Thank you, @yellowstonenpgeek.bsky.social! New words are always fun, and getting to see everyone's awesome photos is great, too!
Q12 #ParkChat Please share your witty comments and fascinating questions here. Please?
The caption from this day (part of my "Subaru Ambassador Day of Caring" trek in 2019: The Crosstrek is loaded up, and three packed bags of trash from site 4, site 5 (no one camped there last night, but the firepit was full of soda cans and melted plastic) and the water pump. I'm sure if I'd looked at any of the other open sites a little harder, there'd be even more bags of trash. All National Park Service sites are "pack in, pack out," which means "take your crap with you." This is why the government shutdown earlier this year was so terrible in open spaces like Yosemite and Yellowstone; people DON'T LISTEN, and without anyone to pick up after them, the sites became trash filled. Seriously, if you're not willing to take your trash with you, don't sully our National treasures with your presence.
Caption from the photo as posted in 2019: The bike, Hoosier Bear, Snappy, a swag bag and the trash bag from the trail (and stuff I picked up from the Fifteen Mile Creek boat ramp, too). 33 miles in one day, from Spring Gap to Fifteen Mile Creek Campground. If I hadn't lost time to rearranging the load, and if I'd been a little better prepared (ie., my butt was more accustomed to being in the bike seat), I wanted to continue to McCoy's Ferry (another 30 miles) or further (Antietam Creek is 70 miles from here).
A11 #ParkChat Follow leave no trace principles, and strongly encourage others to do the same.
Q11 #parkchat “Meliorism” is the belief that we can contribute to positive change and improve the world through acts of love, creativity, compassion and kindness. What is one simple thing we can all do to contribute positively to the health, vitality, and longevity of our beloved parklands?
Q9 #parkchat “Apricity” is the comforting warmth of sunlight on a wintry day. If you’re looking for comforting warm winter sunlight in a parkland are you outdoors skiing or snowshoeing, taking a snowcoach tour, sitting in a sunbeam at the lodge, or someplace else?
April 3, 2026. sunset on the Potomac River at Antietam Creek Campground.
A8 #ParkChat Well, I think my "rutilant" post hits this, too. However, I do always take a sunset photo when camping along the C&O, so how's this?
January 1, 2026. First Day hike at Soldiers Delight NRA, on the Serpentine Trail.
February 12, 2026. A birthday hike in Patapsco Valley State Park, on the Union Dam Trail.
A9 #ParkChat Outdoors, for sure.
A7 #ParkChat Straight up video of "puthery" from 2021. I was on the C&O Canal Towpath.
A6 #ParkChat Lots of places, but most recently Patuxent River State Park, where I took this video of the creaking and rustling.
Q6 #parkchat “Psithurism” is the sound of whispering or rustling, like wind whispering through trees. Poplar trees are especially known for their leaves creating this soothing affect. Where have you stood and simply listened to the trees?
Looking out towards Lake Kabetogama in Voyageurs NP
A5 #ParkChat I haven't come upon a "favorite" National Forest yet, but I do like Superior NF and Voyageurs NP protection of northern boreal forest land.
One area of the Flowing Free Trail at Patuxent River State Park transitions from a deciduous hardwood forest of oak and maple to this stand of pines.
A4 #ParkChat Really, my favorite forest hike is whatever one I'm currently on, but here's a photo from Patuxent River State Park, which has an awesome forest hike called the Flowing Free Trail.
Q4 #parkchat Let’s face it, forests are magical. Here is venerable old “Grandpa’s Biscuit” finding new beauty in “komorebi” ( sunlight filtered through trees, creating dappled light and shadow). Tell us about your favorite hike through a forest. Where were you? What made it special?
Sunset at Norbeck Pass in Badlands National Park
A3 #ParkChat Sunrise, not so much. I'm not a morning person. Sunset, however....
Q3 #parkchat A “rutilant” sunrise (glowing or glittering with red or golden light) at West Thumb Geyser Basin, one of the best sunrise spots in Yellowstone, IMHO. Do you have a favorite parklands sunrise spot? Share a photo highlighting the rutilant beauty of a parklands sight.
a wooden lock gate along the C&O Canal, specifically Violette's Lock (23)
A2 #ParkChat I know imbricate from the cuticle pattern on human hairs, so I was having a hard time picturing something in a park. So I typed the word into my photos, and this one stands out to me -- a lock gate along the C&O Canal (Violette's Lock, 23).
A1 #ParkChat I would be in the Badlands, because it also close to Wind Cave and they posted a photo of a red dog recently. So, @patred.bsky.social would also be with me, because he LOVES bison and especially red dogs!
Q1 #parkchat If you’re a “hodophile”, you are a lover of roads, someone who loves to travel. If you could drop everything and take a nice long road trip tomorrow, which parkland would you choose to go to and why? Would you want a companion on your journey?

Okay, if Ovi stays with the Protas brothers, it’s gotta by the Pros and Conn line.

During a television stoppage, the Penguins acknowledge Alex Ovechkin on the video board.
Fans offer a standing ovation. He responds with clapping and waves from the bench.
Aliaksei Protas has his 25th goal of the season, assisted by his younger brother Ilta, who gets his 2nd assist. This put the Caps up 1-0 over the Pens in the second period
This alone will probably disqualify them in his mind for an invite to the WH.
