The best Absolutely book by far. (I like them all, particularly Martian Manhunter)

Definitely a surprise. I think I saw a Magneto/Xorn post in relation to this and that’s a good, convoluted comparison

Growing up, I’d wondered who he was/what his secret was. Finally read the JL run for this about a year ago. The reveal didn’t live up to my childhood guesses but isn’t that always the case? Anyways, I’m a sucker for MM stories

There were a few companies like Dell that were never really targets in the comic scare, with internal editorial standards that were stricter than the Code, so they didn’t feel the need to go through the process of dealing with it

A tale told all too often - comics creators pouring heart & soul into their work but still having to fight for their fair share of the pie. Just one part of comics history I wrote about in Comics: The Call and the Cost #comics #history #audiobook #weekendread #trailer www.audible.com/pd/B0GWN1B1R...

Yep, great example!

I love those old Harvey comics. And no credits was definitely part of a way for companies to take power and potential profits/higher page rates away from creators. Sadly, so much of comics history has been about this power imbalance and labor exploitation

Definitely a huge loss with the toilet flush of the New 52. I’ll admit that at the time I dropped off the series in the last 10 or so issues, but that marked a time in my life I severely cut how many comics I was buying. I’ve since started buying more again (collector backslide!) and caught up

I liked Heroes Reborn but not so much the Avengers title. Wild it’s sold more than any other issue of Avengers. But it did get me into the Avengers in time for Busiek’d great run after.

At Marvel, the Defenders leaps to mind for superheroes, and G.I. Joe outside capes. At DC, I’d probably say the war titles also and for superheroes, I’d say All Star Squadron/Infinity Inc.

A great series. I wrote an article about it years ago, will try to find

Haven’t read this opera adaptation but I love his Ring Cycle adaptation. He has so many good adaptations: opera, fairy tale, novels…how does he do it?

These Heroes Reborn and Heroes Return books pulled me out of my Spider-Man/X-Men silo. Heroes Reborn quality definitely varied but was very exciting

I might be sucked back into the Flash now that you’re writing it. Just when I thought I was out…

"Comics: The Call and the Cost is not a book about comics as fantasy. It’s a book about comics as work. As risk. As negotiation. As sacrifice. It’s a book every creator--and every reader who thinks comics are “just fun”--should read."

"This book insists on something the medium rarely talks about: comics are not only art, they are labor. And like any labor, they come with struggle, exploitation, sacrifice, and negotiation."

My thoughts too, but those are my general thoughts about most Miller stuff, especially 1990s and later.

Visiting my mom and step dad in FL.

They’ve gotten into glass fusion art and we worked on some stuff today.

My piece should look better when fired but still a good start. #xmen #artsandcrafts

My thoughts exactly!

I love Spider-Boy. Never read this Spider-Prime, although I’ve read some Prime. Based off that, I think Spider-Boy is better.

Brubaker’s cracked a lot of codes on how to be successful without doing the usual BS. I’m so jealous. And I’d vanish immediately too.

Me too, but I grew up and started reading comics in the 90s. I do like other decades and eras though
