Why is luxon so much worse at politics than his coalition partners?

At the risk of being mean, he's gotta think we're all dumb

if you lean right, and are generally qualified, you're probably better off fighting for an ACT list spot than a Nat electorate

Nats only care about electorates. ACT can pick from the list, with more flexibility and prioritize overall coherence. Plus they need more good candidates

At the woke café listening to a podcast about, I guess, accounting while waiting a latte. Nice view too

My guy the YIMBYs are right and you are not, this is a fairly straightforward matter

After a lengthy chat with the new meta llm, which frankly isnt amazing, it reckons luxon is gonna get rolled

Which i already thought anyway, and I did tell it what to think, but I'll take it

There's no hope. Olivia Rodrigo drops a love song referencing just like heaven, and people online compare it to dont delete the kisses because there are some spoken word verses. Idk man

No, just driving. I will not hear any suggestion of arbitrariness

And must have been a careless driving causing death (its never dangerous driving in NZ, difficult mental element to prove) because manslaughter would have been in the High Court

The local resident judge at my first court was a keen cyclist who recused himself in a driving homicide of a cyclist, given he often cycled the road where the cyclist got obliterated

Was also known as a stern judge, so the accused very much got lucky

No juries for driving offences. Easy. Get a panel of urbanist judges who cycle or tube everywhere. Hearing all matters remotely

My prediction is that luxon goes. If its orderly he probably passes to Willis as heir; if its hostile, probably Bishop just for the scrap

Are they US or Euro style pilsners? I've found "American style" or west coast pilsners in NZ to be quite hoppy, while Czech/ Italian/ German style pilsners are just marvelous. But I expect in America people drink pilsner to avoid hops!

You've got to want to crack down on weak wellington politicians and officials, win some of those officials votes, be pro rogernomics, be pro the other bits of the Lange era too, get a few people mad about the Lange era and a handful of professional immigrants who don't know about it

TOP basically needs to pull 5% fairly broadly and evenly from labour, greens, nats, act and nzf and i don't know if they've got the provocative, technocrat, contrarian scope to do that

5 days ago 0 0 1 0

Exact situation where Labour's do nothing and win strategy might work

Unfortunately, the do nothing part is managing to underwhelm me at this point and I didn't even want much in the first place

Slightly Different than the electorate view, where the people who are actually pro libs wouldn't usually vote for the Nats anyway because even if you think Stanford is good and cracking down on wooly teachers, you don't want Simeon in cabinet anyway

5 days ago 0 0 1 0

Broadly if you're a swing Nat backbencher, you think Simeon is insane and pisses off the electorate, Willis is the face of the not v popular Luxon inner core, Stanford is a trendy lib and Bishop is a wellington lib who disagrees with you on most things especially NIMBYism

spill is on, luxo might be out. For like the 3rd time in 5 months, but then he really is dreadful

I thought geese were overhyped but I won't stand for them being overhated. They probably are a plant but they're alright

I am generally in favour of using LLMs for legal services. But it is quite funny that one of the loudest barristers about LLMs on LinkedIn in NZ just got absolutely thumped by a fairly legally courageous claim

I broadly and increasingly see the sense of a statute of limitation for criminal offences

I broadly think WFH is a bad idea for any workplace doing serious work but now that i have my own place I do see the appeal

Victoria has made public transport free – NSW hasn’t. Has there been any difference in uptake? Public transport access, travel time and familiarity with the network all play a role in how many people switch away from driving.

free fares feel good but are an incredibly expensive way to deal with a low priority issue for PT use. To the extent people are price sensitive, increases in car use costs matter more than PT pricing (which is wild)
