And this graph... is why I think agrifood policy will be such an interesting (read: tricky and valuable) area to work in!! Credit to @drsimevans.carbonbrief.org

The last General Election has seen much talk about Reform UK's popularity in so-called 'left-behind places, characterized by socioeconomic deprivation. Looking at variation in deprivation levels across the UK's constituencies suggests this pattern exists, but only partially. A short thread. 🧵
More proof that the rhetoric reflected in some parts of the press and parliament is out of step with public sentiment:
This survey of UK business leaders shows strong backing for the transition away from oil & gas and an end to new oil & gas licensing:

Good piece this. A lot of the narrative isn't helpful in a skills context, because most of the technical skills are actually the same. We don't need new structures and new standards, when it should be built on to what we already have to make it easier for everyone involved.

60% of business leaders thought that in order to properly invest they needed clear guidance from the government on what the sources of UK energy generation will look like
Ultimately, business leaders want more clarity on the trajectory of the uk energy transition…
And Scottish business leaders showed the same levels of support for the Gov to curb North Sea O+G exploration 🏴
Energy intensive businesses were more likely (+12%pts) to support the exploration licence ban, which is significant
Our research shows strong support (70%) for Labours manifesto commitment to stop granting new licences for O+G exploration in the North Sea
With some leaders judging government action is too slow (33%), adequate (39%) and too fast (23%)
70% of UK business leaders agree that phasing out fossil fuels is in the public interest. But there are mixed views on the pace of phase out…

The farmers' IHT fight rumbles on. The NFU warning again that it will 'decimate the countryside' www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Rural affairs does not = farming. While there are 175,000 farmers in the UK, there are 12,000,000 rural voters. Westminster doesn't seem interested in what they think
Great stat - but curious about the choice to group snp and reform voters in Scotland
Appreciate all the people who've followed me over the past week or so, welcome to Bluesky!
I've really benefitted from starter packs as this network grows. So I've made one of my own to help new arrivals find other interesting people. Please share, and let me know who's missing

From what I can see, its only Further Flex and Renewables (CP.03 in the workbook) but they don't spell that out in the report
All eyes on the Spring Spending Review to hear more details on how Warm Homes Plan will be delivered... Will the Chancellor align public spending with NESO's very optimistic assumption? 👀
Take finances... Labours commitment of £3.4bn over 2 years in the budget will not even cover the Warm Homes plan as it stands, let alone a doubling of it in the same period. Even with the extra £13.7bn committed in Labours manifesto, it still wouldn’t suffice 💸
Looking at the current ecosystem, the scale of change needed to deliver these levels of uptake of insulation (both public and privately-funded) is astronomic.
Spotted in the NESO Annex 👀 - the assumptions underpinning their modelling are that household insulation measures will be “rolled out at around twice the pace of the Warm Homes Plan.” 🧵
