The capacity to do great things in a single human alone is fucking amazing. We have so much power and agency (when we realize it) to change the world around us. Even if it's one small step at a time.

One perk of walking and biking around instead of driving:

It's much, much easier to get shaken down by Girl Scouts selling cookies. I've never bought so many boxes! πŸ˜‚

No shame in doing what you find is best for yourself!

Here in the South, I've been able to spend much more time outdoors, walking to places, taking the bus, etc. since the weather is tolerable. I've never used my car so little.

Just like the seasons, we all take turns doing our part.

1. Limit points of access. I only use my laptop for social media.

2. Redirecting bored energy into adjacent areas. For example, I am working on an online certification during my free time.

3. Slowing down life. Bus rides and the walks that pair with them have been great for keeping me grounded!

With that being said, I also think that social media still has a role to play in day to day life.

The real crux is finding a way to use it responsibly so that I am getting true benefit out of it, and not just endlessly scrolling. What i've found works best is as follows

I've scaled back my social media usage/presence significantly over the past few weeks, and it's one wonders for both my mental and physical health.

I've been rediscovering ways to be active (such as taking the bus and walking to work), reading, and being more intentional with my time.

Seriously if you are nondisabled CALL YOUR REPS.

We need you to help speak up with us right now. So badly.

I rely on telehealth for my care now. I can’t use stairs anymore, so leaving home is dangerous and painful.

I also lack the spoons to be as active as I want & need to be:

I need your help.

There’s such a huge well of good things happening at the local level, wherever you are.

Despite the national elections not going the way I wanted them to, it’s been so great to see things improve in my city. Go where the helpers are!

Screen shot of volts podcast transcript excerpt. The last paragraph is highlighted. It reads:

That's to me the obvious conclusion for Dems is like densification is β€”

Dan Savage

Party building.

David Roberts

Party building. Right. It's the exact same thing. Densification is creating more blue voters. They are one in the same. Doing it to suburbs, doing it anywhere to any β€” doing it anywhere is the same as building up the Democratic party.

Nearly every apartment or townhouse built today will be branded as "luxury," never mind that these units are often vastly cheaper than the single-family homes they replace.

I have quite a few friends who want kids but are stuck being single. Dating apps are a disaster. Traditional ways of meeting people have diminished. Sad and frustrating. Wish we had a clear way to fix it.

There isn’t a β€œone size fits all” answer, but I know affordable housing is one of the biggest roadblocks to my immediate circle when it comes to the idea of having kids.

Raising a child is out of the conversation for us until they can afford to own the roof over our head.
