Why There Are Exactly Two Sexes - Archives of Sexual Behavior Archives of Sexual Behavior -

"Accurate biology is distinct from questions of dignity, rights, and how we treat one another. Policy disputes should not be adjudicated by redefining - or defining away - the reproductive realities that make sex a useful scientific concept in the first place."

"Ich erwartete eine wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung, etwa in der Form: 'Hier ist der Beweis, deshalb liegst du falsch.' Stattdessen blieb eine solche fachliche Debatte völlig aus. Es hieß sofort: 'Du bist ein schrecklicher, böser Mensch!'" Colin Wright, Evolutionsbiologe, im Interview mit der GWUP.

I applied to countless jobs.

I refused to provide them because they were irrelevant to my scientific expertise, violated my moral principles, and were a political litmus test.

I would guess you support affirmative action. Imagine if you had been required to submit documents denouncing AA as part of your application.

It is a perfectly valid definition, and the definition of "binary" I use when referring to sex.

4 months ago 3 0 2 0

No, it's not a "weak binary," it's a binary because there are only two gamete types. The fundamental and universal defining feature of the sexes is having the biological function to produce either sperm or ova. Without a third gamete type, sex is and remains binary.

The "two things" refers to the two types of gametes—sperm and ova—that are the universal defining feature of the sexes. Sex is binary because there are only two gamete types.

Because the fundamental and universal property of the sexes is having the biologiucal function to produce either sperm or ova. And because there are only two gamete types, there are only two sexes. Therefore sex is "composed of two parts" and can be said to be "binary."

That's simply not true. I am using the first definition of "binary" below.

"Relating to, composed of, or involving two things."

People who identify as transgender are still either male or female.

What's the third sex? Without it, there will only be two sexes. And because there are only two sexes, sex is binary.

Sterile people still have a sex, but "sterile" is not itself a kind of sex. You can be a sterile male or female.

4 months ago 5 0 1 0

"Intersex" and "sterile" are not sexes. Therefore there are still only two sexes—male and female.

4 months ago 12 0 8 0

"Sexless" isn't a sex. It is, by definition, the absence of having a sex. Thus there are still only two sexes—male and female.

Once again: Why there are two sexes and no more In a recent post on his site “Reality’s Last Stand,” Colin Wright reprints an article he published a few months ago in Archives of Sexual behavior, outlining why there are exactly…

In the Archives of Sexual Behavior, Colin Wright explains why there are only two sexes, and debunks claims that the sexes are more numerous than that or form a spectrum.

Colin Wright calls attention to a new paper arguing that advancing your ideology should take precedence over promulgating empirical truth.

Opinion | Evidence Backs the Transgender Social-Contagion Hypothesis The share of young people claiming another ‘gender identity’ exploded. Now surveys show it is receding.

Was the more than 20-fold rise in trans identities since 2010 the result of people finally feeling free to express their authentic selves? Or was it a social contagion?

5 years ago, I and others were canceled for suggesting the latter. New evidence shows we were right.

‘Froggy Girl’—One Therapist’s Answer to the Gender Book Industry Too many books teach kids they were born wrong; mine teaches them to love the body they’re in.

The gender book industry is a powerful tool of indoctrination. We need reality-based alternatives.

Pamela Garfield-Jaeger's new book—Froggy Girl—is her answer.

"We can’t control every message children hear, but we can make sure they hear the truth at least once."

Trump Was Right to Defund the Trevor Project The organization has peddled pseudoscience to vulnerable kids.

Today, the U.S. government officially ended its partnership with the Trevor Project.

While the left melts down, Brad Polumbo and I highlight a major reason for the decision: the Trevor Project's promotion of harmful gender ideology and sex pseudoscience targeted at vulnerable youth in crisis.

...or binary compounds. Sex is binary in the sense that it is composed of two and only two parts. "Sex is binary" is a synonym for "there are only two sexes." It is totally compatible with organisms not having a sex or organisms like garden snails that are both sexes.

8 months ago 3 0 3 0

Gametes define the sexes. That is absolutely fundamental. And there is more than one definition of "binary." It's not like computer code where there is only 0s and 1s. Another definition is "composed of two parts." We use this definition when we refer to things like binary star systems...

But sex ambiguity is not a third sex or evidence against the binary nature of sex. And most people, as I said, are clearly either male or female. The existence of ambiguous cases does not mean everyone is ambiguous or that sex is a social construct.

But being sexless is not a new sex. And true hermaphrodites in other species are also not a new sex. They're both sexes.

Sex is binary because there are only two sexes. I never said bodies are binary. Most people are unambiguously male or female. A vanishingly rare minority may be ambiguous.
