I live one city over, and the speed at which people went from having no idea this was happening to putting up “no data centers” yard signs on every block was pretty remarkable.
Could this be the 1st time EU funding is suspended on rule of law related grounds, with EU condition to unlock the suspended amount compliance with non-binding recommendations of a non-EU body?

No Cards, huh?
As we’ve said many times, it’s all about blocking regulation.

My report on a quiet decision taken by von der Leyen and her college that suggests the work of de-risking continues apace
#Lego is going Belgian and will release a Tintin moon rocket set! Pretty cool!
Ukraine’s strike campaign is hitting targets 1,000km away, costing Russia 40% of its recent oil windfall. Meanwhile, the Iran war is reshaping the Indo-Pacific. My weekly update on war and strategic competition covers it all. mickryan.substack.com/p/turning-th...
"At a time of absolute kind of amorality and immorality in the world...he's a moral leader, and he is establishing himself as someone who's actually willing to stand up to power... That message is going to go down very well among billions of people."
Ben Rhodes on Pope Leo XIV.
I am genuinely thrilled to see this, and if it feels like no big deal to you, I would refer you to five years ago, when people in Westminster hyped the Turing scheme& argued that Erasmus was pointless anyway since British students did not like to go abroad.
“The researchers found that 40% of workers had encountered workslop within a month, and then spent an average of 3.4 hours a month dealing with it – which the study estimates adds up to $8.1m in lost productivity for a 10,000-person organization.”

If Hungary can free itself from the rule of a corrupt Russian agent, the USA can too.
Been quite the week for JD Vance - he's managed to ensure the fall of Viktor Orban and then confirmed Iran's control of the Straits of Hormuz. Poor chap needs a day off.
Me too!
They always champion themselves as the guardians of science. Whaaa… Nothing new here unfortunately

Fascinating, Zelensky coming out publicly more and more and saying that Trump is working with/for Putin. The Ukrainians seem to have determined that telling the truth is preferable to lying to please Trump.
The difference between vile “christianism” and God loving Christianity. Thank goodness for a Pope in these fraught times!
Just sent out this free midweek update. This was no ordinary Trump TACO, this was Trump accepting Iran's victory conditions as the basis of negotiations. It looks likely that Iran will emerge stronger from this war than before; a total US strategic failure. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...
The. EU. Is. Not. A. Peace. Project.
If it was the first big push in European project w/dn't have been a common army. It is, in fact, a great power project. A US-backed effort to create a "third force" to keep the Russians out, enable the Germans to be built back up, and to allow the US to leave.
This all reminds me of the time Croesus asked the Delphic oracle if he should attack Persia and she responded, "If Croesus crosses the Halys River, he will destroy a great empire."
Turned out to be Croesus’s.
1/ Many scenarios for the end of the Iran war suggest that Tehran will gain permanent control of the Strait of Hormuz. An analysis by JP Morgan suggests that Tehran could raise up to $90 billion a year this way, instantly making Iran one of the wealthiest Gulf economies. ⬇️

As it is Good Friday what do Britons think Christian values are? Top is ‘treating others as you would like to be treated’, forgiveness and compassion for those who are suffering. While values associated with debates around ‘Christian Nationalism’ come to the bottom of the list
Special stamps with the picture of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Germany is celebrating the late Queen!
A special stamp marks what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday on 21 April. It honours her legacy and work towards reconciliation between the UK and Germany.
The decision by Israeli police to bar Jerusalem’s Latin Patriarch from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on Palm Sunday constitutes a violation of religious freedom and long-standing protections governing holy sites. (1/2)
