The worst part of shrinkflation and enshittification is the continued cumulative effect of becoming ever more numb to the relentless corporate greed that drives it.
If you think rapid technological progress should result in a smaller, worse product, you've been bamboozled.

I guess Trump is going to do a televised bible reading to prove his piety. May I suggest Matthew 6:5, because that would be just *chef's kiss*
A group of men dressed in French WW1 soldier uniforms, standing in a trench.
Need a good movie to watch? Try "Paths of Glory," about a group of French WW1 soldiers who are court-martialed for cowardice. It's a true classic, based on a novel by Humphrey Cobb about a real-life event. It was so controversial it was banned in France until 1975.

Me: taps my finger one picometer away from the center of the X in the screen
The uninterruptible ad that repeats 15 times:
There are only two settings in science fiction: Everything is Dirty or Everything is Clean.

Bluesky not letting you look at Bluesky may be the best thing they've ever done, TBH
I used to love Dave Chapelle's comedy, but he started swinging down instead of up, and he's upset that there's been a negative reaction.
Everyone has freedom of speech, but we don't have freedom from consequences. If your words hurt someone, perhaps think why that might be. The problem may be you.
If you want an AI-proof job, may I suggest becoming a medieval blacksmith? No robot can do your job, and even if it could, you can just accuse it of being sent by the devil. You can't lose! (Unless you get the plague)
Why do the best story ideas always occur at 3:21 in the morning when you get up to pee and are only really trying to hold on to your sleepy feelings?

A man with long white hair and beard, dressed in white, holding a white staff
Authoritarians losing elections in landslides, sexual predators resigning...Just for confirmation that the tide is turning, can we get Gandalf the White to return?
You, too, deserve joy.
Three German WW1 soldiers standing in a trench. One is pointing a rifle
All Quiet on the Western Front (the novel) is a big influence on my own book and the original film is a classic, but the 2022 movie is pretty good too.
WW1 stories should be anti-war: All Quiet was among the 1st and my book follows in that vein.
Go watch it, and if you want more, go get my book.
I re-read some of my manuscript in progress today and thought it might be... Good? It's so rare to not be overly critical.
The Artemis capsule floats in the ocean next to a dinghy
The Artemis capsule kind of looks like an angry robot head with a festive hairdo
I wish someone somewhere would have told us that love of money is the root of all evil. That could have been handy when we were designing economic systems, for example.
Gotta say, all this doomscrolling is making me feel bad for some reason.
A silhouette of a giraffe with extra long legs and a normal sized neck
The world is a nightmare, America is run by a decrepit pedophile, gas is expensive, companies keep forming larger monopolies, minorities are being demonized, and everyone is addicted to terrible social media run by monsters
To make it better, here's a giraffe with long legs and a normal-sized neck.
The books "North Woods", by Daniel Mason and "The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store" by James McBride
Finished up my last book, so I'm going through my TBR pile. It's between "North Woods" and "The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store." One looks like it's a multigenerational story set around a house and the other is about a mixed neighborhood in the 1920s. What should be next?

Remember that thing you love?
Well, AI is here to replace it with a horrific, godless facsimile of itself. Enjoy!
The cover of the book "The Bright Sword", by Lev Grossman
Finished this one- it was unexpected and interesting: if you can handle the narrative changing from present to past and multiple POV, it's a modern and inclusive Arthurian tale that weaves the real world, British myth, magic and faith together in a satisfying way.

Has it been over a year since I published my book? Because it feels like about 20.
If you haven't read it yet, do it!
If you have: nice.

One day in the future, anthropologists will study the rise and fall of Wendy's like they do the Roman empire.

Sometimes you find art that is just cool as hell, and I found this one by Charles Cobelle, a French-born American artist of the 20th century. This one was a bit too expensive for me to buy, but I thought it was awesome.
To nobody's surprise, over-reliance on AI tools diminishes critical thinking skills, especially among younger people.
