This planet — with all its troubles — is worth caring for.
That should be our single purpose, as a species: To be stewards of this magnificent world, ensuring it thrives long into the future.

This commentary reflects on a digital media campaign for sharing evidence synthesis methodology more widely—and the bigger question behind it all: does reach lead to uptake? bit.ly/41bamSF

Dr Edilene Lopes McInnes presents by a slide, which reads: “How PPI methods are changing to include marginalised communities”. The slide text says: “Cultural Responsiveness. Methodological frameworks must be adapted to reflect cultural values, knowledge systems, and communication practices of the target community, moving beyond surface-level sensitivity toward structural reform.” “Ethical Imperatives. Rigorous attention to power asymmetries, informed consent, data sovereignty, and community benefit is essential — particularly in research involving historically exploited populations.” “Barriers and Facilitators to Participation. Systematic analysis of structural, logistical, linguistic, and trust-based barriers, alongside enabling mechanisms, is prerequisite to equitable engagement design.” “Operational Capacity & Infrastructure. Sustainable PPI with marginalised communities requires adequate resourcing, relationship investment, researcher training, and institutional commitment over time.” On the right side of the slide is an illustration of people in a group discussion.
Dr Edilene Lopes McInnes, Adelaide University presents at JBI's research symposium, explaining that there is a spectrum of research methods of PPI. On this spectrum we find methods spanning informal discussions, to partnership research approaches such as action research, co-production & co-learning
Should we be asking, 'What does AI standardise?' in addition to 'What does AI automate?'

Bluesky is the new science Twitter, new study by @whysharksmatter.bsky.social and Julia Wester concludes!
"Results show that for every reported professional benefit that scientists once gained from Twitter, scientists can now gain that benefit more effectively on Bluesky than on Twitter."
AI is often sold as perfect solutions to the "problem" of having to create captions and transcripts. That framing, of course, centers creators and producers over the people who actually rely upon the captions and transcripts. But there is no replacement for humans when making content accessible.

Do not rely on the A.I.-generated alt text in Facebook or Instagram. The result is vague and useless, like "may be an image of food and text," and "may be an image of outdoors." These do nothing to give users the context and content of an image.

A common question about alt text is whether or not it's appropriate to mention attributes like race or skin tone. A common response is, "It depends." In this post, Tolu Adegbite explains how race can be relevant and important in providing context.

To reduce the cognitive load in data visualizations, directly label your data rather than using legends. This helps colorblind or visually impaired users. It also decreases the work of scanning back and forth trying to match the legend with the data.

Transcribed Text from Image: Invest time in defining key objectives. Define your goals and objectives. What do you want to achieve with your dissemination activities? Consider whether you are trying to simply share knowledge, shift an attitude, change a behaviour etc OBJECTIVES Image Description: The image is a colourful cartoon-style illustration featuring people in a work or presentation setting. A large screen shows the word “OBJECTIVES” at the top, along with a circular chart and an giant pencil pointing toward the centre, reminiscent of a target. One person in a turban is pointing at the screen talking, while another stands with folded arms and listens intently. At the bottom, a person at a desk appears to be thinking while using a mouse, and another person is surrounded by different styles of charts. The person has pinpointed one chart using a pencil. a light bulb surrounded by a flash emanates from the chart, symbolising ideas. Small icons near the main image show an eye, a megaphone, a thumbs-up, and a thumbs down, and a speech bubbl containing a graph, representing communication and goal-setting themes. The overall theme emphasises definin objectives and goals clearly before starting dissemination or communication activities.

Center text: RESEARCH DISSEMINATION Surrounding sections (clockwise): MESSAGES PRODUCTS PLATFORMS RESOURCES EVALUATE RESTART OBJECTIVES AUDIENCES jbi.global Image Description: The image is a colourful circular diagram labeled "Research Dissemination" at the centre. Around it are 8 connected sections with titles: "Objectives," "Audiences," "Messages," "Products," "Platforms," "Resources," "Evaluate," and "Restart." Each section has small icons that represent its theme (e.g., envelopes for messages, charts for evaluation). Around the circle are cartoon-style illustrations of diverse people engaging in research, presenting data, and discussing ideas.
