I miss yooouuu #SEEDsister!! Clearly we need to rectify this situation!! Because once a year is not enough!!!
NIH is requesting comments on a new draft policy that may require human brain imaging data (and other data) from nih-funded research to only be shared via controlled access, & only with certain countries. I suggest neuroimagers read closely & submit comments by 3/18.

Coming back to regular life is rough, so here’s one last memory from #CNS2026: BEHOLD! The ✨BRIGHT✨ and 🧠brainy 🧠 future of #cognitiveneuroscience! #BlackInNeuro #BlackInPsych
Their posters & presence bring so much to our field & it was so nice to watch them bond over their conference experience!
Look at these incredible trainees! When I was a grad trainee, my first solo conference was CNS, so it feels very full circle to bring my own graduate trainees to #CNS2026 for their first society-level poster presentation!
BLISS lab members standing with their poster and Dr. Bradley Voytek of FOOOF pipeline fame, at CNS2026!
I know the day isn’t over but let me tell you, my wee lab CRUSHED that poster session!! Two hours all lab members were chatting the WHOLE time! I am the proudest PI outchea yall!! Look how cute we are with today’s brain baddie celebrity: Dr. Bradley Voytek! #CNS2026
The BLISS lab members standing and smiling at CNS2026 with Dr. Joe LeDoux, famous neuroscientist.
Best part of today’s #CNS2026 (and there were many to choose from) this glorious picture of Dr. Joe LeDoux and my little lab (sans Miguel who we couldn’t find!)
So excited to watch my lab present data FOR THE FIRST TIME AS A PI!!!! Who gon be there?? #cns2026
We have a special tea party guest in our #PictureOfTheWeek. Kanzi was a male bonobo who participated in several scientific studies on great ape language and cognition.
Our latest profile is here! Dr. Theanne Griffith (@doctheagrif.bsky.social) studies molecular, cellular, and circuit mechanisms for proprioception. Follow the link below to listen to our full interview!

Check out #StoriesOfWin interviewee, Aya Osman, in her interview with The Transmitter! Great article about an incredible scientist 🧠
CN: Suicide
More than 90% of people who die by suicide are neurodivergent. "By studying the brain mechanisms for social connections, we aim to identify novel intervention points and new inroads for therapies to increase social connectedness." @drdebah.bsky.social:

Calling all @apsphysiology.bsky.social members: let’s help raise some money to support ABRCMS student presentation awards! Goal is $1200/discipline to support 12 awards by Sept 30th! 🧪 abrcms.org/donate/stude...
There are few reasons to miss the start of classes but making sure I get to attend #cannabinoidgrc2025 is one of the few VERY GOOD reasons! #blackincannabinoids
Wonderful session on Cannabis, Trauma and Society with @azaallsop.bsky.social, @anahitabn.bsky.social, Edward Chesney, Nate Harnett, and Gavin Petrie with discussant extraordinaire Debra Karhson! #CannabinoidGRC2025
Powerful Power Hour at the #CannabinoidGRC2025 with practical actions that all of us can take to tackle our most pressing problems!
D. Experience and expertise matter a great deal, and this approach risks bringing in people with insufficient experience and expertise to make good decisions.
C. American science is already severely thwarted by short-term appropriations, e.g., annual appropriations for NIH, making it harder to fund long-term projects. Scientific advances take time! The turnover produced by politicizing appointments at NIH and other funding agencies would be damaging.
B. Civil service protection has been in place for generations of non-partisan workers who are devoted to serving their country. We will not be able to recruit the best, unbiased people to these roles if their job security depends on the views and whims of political factions.
A. Grant-making is not policy-making and it is concerning that it is viewed that way. Grant-making's goal is to support work to increase science knowledge. Grants should be reviewed and funded based on the quality and potential of the science they propose. Science is non-partisan and non-political.

I’m planning to offer attending this seminar as end-of-semester extra credit for my class! I encourage you to do the same 🤗 #BlackInNeuro
ICYMI: There's a middle step between UG & Grad school **if** more research exp & prep is needed. Its called a #Postbaccalaureate or #postbac. For #BIPOC students these can be clutch! This was a preamble for me posting all the ones I run across this year: www.broadinstitute.org/students/bro...
Have been absolutely obsessed with Gül Dölen’s work (#baddiesinSTEM) for maybe the last two or three years — just sent this to my UG researcher & figured this type stuff was Bluesky worthy! Happy listening nerd friends!

Oo so glad I saved this for posting! In October, I landed my first external award for a science! Ya #STEMinist is
Global Baddie now!! #CatalystAwardee #HealthyLongevity #scienceofsocialconnection #socialconnection
Coming up with the first post always feels so daunting — to many things to convey and not enough character space. Maybe it’s enough to breathe in the bot free air 😮💨 and start finding the other brain 🧠 nerds…#BlackinNeuro #blackinSTEM #NewPI #Cannabinerd
