The trade situation may have been de-escalated, but IMO, it has inflicted permanent damage on the Canada-US relationship. It has compromised any trust we may have had that our southern neighbour would deal with us in good faith. And it has significantly eroded goodwill toward the US among Canadians.
Here's the speech if you haven't heard it. 13 minutes of your time. Share it with your American friends and neighbours, because they won't see it otherwise. Circulate it in Mexico and Denmark, France and the UK, Panama and Germany, Poland and Estonia, and especially -- especially -- Ukraine.

It isn't easy. I think it's important to pay attention to what's happening in the world right now.
But I'm realizing that there are diminishing (eventually negative) returns to over-engagement with short form social media.
Safeguard your mental health, folks, and refresh that feed in moderation.
I did way too much doomscrolling here yesterday, to the point that partway through the day, I could feel my mood entering a tailspin in a way that I haven't felt in years.
That was my cue to step back for a while.
I don't have a lot to say today, so I'll leave it at this:

Voted in the Ward 3 byelection advance polls yesterday, and brought my 7-year-old along to introduce him to the process! Hoping he grows up to understand the importance of this civic duty.
Just finished printing off an entire hardcopy map series, and had no issues whatsoever with the plotter. Miracles do happen!

After 15 years and nearly 5k posts on That Other Platform, it's time to get set up somewhere else (i.e. here). Not sure how active I'll be - I'm primarily hoping to get connected with whatever local #SaintJohn chatter is happening on Bluesky, follow some topics of interest, that sort of thing.
By my approximation, the number of microblogging sites competing for my attention is increasing.
