Very sorry to hear that the poet J.H. Prynne has died, at the age of 89. Here, from 10 years ago, is my attempt to describe the man and the work

I grew up on chip van chips, the best! Hope you get lucky next time.
To think we lost Victoria Wood & Prince, tei of our finest chroniclers about sex, a day apart :)
Wanted some pickled red cabbage to go with my cottage pie, none in Lidl, little Tesco or the Coop, what is the world coming to?
Picture of the Essential Ellison by Harlan Ellison US paperback from late 90s
One of my first two Amazon US purchases from '98 if I remember rightly when postage was cheap and exchange rate made things even cheaper.
Mislaid it when I moved house 8 years ago & just found it doubleshelved behind some Stephen King hardbacks!
I see Transvision Vamp are touring in October....very tempted.
The life and times of Michael K by J.M. Coetzee.
Pic of the actual #rsd26 purchases. More than I usually get/spend, but I had unspent birthday money!
I might go back for Epic Soundtracks and Vol.2 of the dance comp, as volume 1 is so good.
Thanks piccadilly records, vinyl exchange & vinyl revival.
Still a Q at picc rex but got a couple from vinyl ex and vinyl revival
My #1 pick has already sold but suspect its one that picc recs didnt get many copies of. I will waltz along around 1130 as usual
Happy Record Store Day to all those who celebrate :) #vinylxmas
I had my ratatouille with a jacket potato :)
I went to supermarket to buy pasta, spent £30....forgot to buy pasta. Clearly still not 100%.
Yates wine lodges. Used to be one nexf to the arndale.
I just bought 100g of goats cheese for £5. On the plus side its very tasty (Killeen) on the downside its only 100g. My ambition is now to be rich enough to always eat expensive cheeses.
Have you heard the wonderful Mabe Fratti? Solo, in the band Titanic & now with Bill Orcutt. All fantastic.
All my friends are reading on the calculation of volume. Got some catching up today. Thanks @raremags.bsky.social Cubism from Greenhouse Books. Spare copy of @stuhennigan.bsky.social to give to a friend.
Obsessively listening to The Beauty and the Beat by the Go Gos this week. What an absolutely perfect pop record.
Perhaps a reaction to the world events, but been listening to Diana Ross Diana, pure undistilled joy, inc the original Chic mix on rotation. Amazing how that ephemeral music disco has proven so enduring.
In 2010 me and me and JT met as Salt Modern Voices @saltpublishing.com poets and held a joint launch at @anthonyburgess.bsky.social - looking forward to his new book
Bohemian Rhapsody was surprisingly enjoyable, sensibly keeping Queen's music to the minimum. Freddy's cats showed more personality than the rest of the band.
Watched All the President's Men. Had forgotten it has such an abrupt ending. I guess the audience of 1976 didn't need to know what came next. Redford and Hoffman great in it.
Loving the muted drum sound of De La Soul is Dead. Bit of a pre-trip hop vibe. Original gangster UK vinyl!
Watching Breaking Bad and seeing Walter White prescribed the same drug I'm on after my eye op
Well its been quite the week. 3rd eye op since October this afternoon to hopefully fix my post-cataract glaucoma pressures.
The response to Moby's tineared reading of Lola has taken me back to the song. Might be first Kinks song I ever heard, one of those ubiquitous 70s songs on jukeboxes & karaoke. Later, when I got into the Kinks, I realised its one of those rare near perfect pieces of songcraft, everything in place.
Today's books
All ELO singles are just bombastic chorus peak after peak. I think Turn to Stone and Telephone Line are my favourites. Their Greatest Hits should be on the national curriculum.
