Jeremy Prynne, prankster poet The famously obscure poetry of JH Prynne glitters with aphorisms and jokes

Very sorry to hear that the poet J.H. Prynne has died, at the age of 89. Here, from 10 years ago, is my attempt to describe the man and the work

One of my first two Amazon US purchases from '98 if I remember rightly when postage was cheap and exchange rate made things even cheaper.

Mislaid it when I moved house 8 years ago & just found it doubleshelved behind some Stephen King hardbacks!

Pic of the actual #rsd26 purchases. More than I usually get/spend, but I had unspent birthday money!

I might go back for Epic Soundtracks and Vol.2 of the dance comp, as volume 1 is so good.

Thanks piccadilly records, vinyl exchange & vinyl revival.

I just bought 100g of goats cheese for £5. On the plus side its very tasty (Killeen) on the downside its only 100g. My ambition is now to be rich enough to always eat expensive cheeses.

Obsessively listening to The Beauty and the Beat by the Go Gos this week. What an absolutely perfect pop record.

Perhaps a reaction to the world events, but been listening to Diana Ross Diana, pure undistilled joy, inc the original Chic mix on rotation. Amazing how that ephemeral music disco has proven so enduring.

Bohemian Rhapsody was surprisingly enjoyable, sensibly keeping Queen's music to the minimum. Freddy's cats showed more personality than the rest of the band.

Watched All the President's Men. Had forgotten it has such an abrupt ending. I guess the audience of 1976 didn't need to know what came next. Redford and Hoffman great in it.

Loving the muted drum sound of De La Soul is Dead. Bit of a pre-trip hop vibe. Original gangster UK vinyl!

The response to Moby's tineared reading of Lola has taken me back to the song. Might be first Kinks song I ever heard, one of those ubiquitous 70s songs on jukeboxes & karaoke. Later, when I got into the Kinks, I realised its one of those rare near perfect pieces of songcraft, everything in place.

All ELO singles are just bombastic chorus peak after peak. I think Turn to Stone and Telephone Line are my favourites. Their Greatest Hits should be on the national curriculum.
