SNK doesn't need to turn a profit, it simply needs to Be Exploitable IP.

Unfortunately their gaming division is, overall, insanely profitable. They clear over $1Bn in annual revenue from their enshittified gambling app every year because it has the "Monopoly" board game branding.
call me the intolerant left or whatever but i don’t think we should have to put up with this

VERY COOL PERSON: It's four-twenty, you know what that means?

The only way we unfuck our country is through a puritanical anti-corruption drive. We need to rip out a vast substrate of corrupt elites and marginalize an even larger contingent of mere incompetents and cowards.
Ppl need to be terrified of the white-collar criminal laws of the United States again.
The view is from the inside of a cave looking out. The right side of the frame is dominated by a pink figure with a scribbled dot for a head. Before it is a desert, dominated by stone visages. Great stone pillars interrupt the vista. Towering structures can be seen to the left of the frame. Including a ridged purple structure that runs from the bottom of the frame to the top. Far off, in the center of the frame, is a golden palace built right under wax dribbling off the edge of a great barrier.
Hand holding a DVD box of Sonic The Hedgehog the movie (the anime from the 90s), features the tagline "scrape your knuckles. Catch some tails." In front of a silver CRT displaying the DVD menu for the movie. There is a playstation ornament on top of the TV, and a PS2 to the right.
Sometimes you gotta make sure you watch a movie in the best format you can.
I don't think military planners are that fussy about how it looks
"Can't read this handwriting"
If that's what their 2024 autopsy said, they would have published it.
Sweet!

Their progenitors said it was unAmerican when the Tea Party was called "the American Taliban" during the racist backlash to the election of Obama, and no one was ever allowed to say anything mean about conservatives on TV (without being forced to apologize for it) ever again.
Fair enough. I also take back the plug and play knock offs as a criticism, upon reflecting on who currently owns SNK. Cheap knock offs would be most welcome.
Counterpoint, how many clone console makers from the 80s and 90s still exist? If everything is on a single chip and it all Just Works, about how long after this comes out before should we expect $50 plug-and-plays from China to come out of the woodwork?
(2) If they don't break this out into multiple chips, what is the actual advantage of this over using an FPGA solution? Other than fractions of a milliwatt, the only advantage is cost, but FPGA consoles are already pretty cheap! This is a long way to go to MAYBE save ~$20/unit.
(1) Baking onto ASIC is inherently risky, things can break in very subtle and unintuitive ways when you go from verilog to silicon. If they're not prepared to eat the cost of multiple revisions internally, this can go very, very wrong. 1/2
Sorry, my brain got its wires crossed, I was conflating SOC with SBC, which CAN overlap but don't necessarily in the case of hardware clones.
They announced they were working with Jotego (or Jotego announced he was working with them) but if they're actually going to bake the entire FPGA NeoGeo core into a single chip then that would be very silly and sounds like a really bad idea for multiple reasons. 2/2
If they announced they were using an SOC then I missed that. That would seem to go completely against their claim that it wasn't emulation. 1/2
Well, baking HDL code onto an ASIC IS spinning up new chips, and apparently >=180nm at volumes >=5,000 is somewhat affordable nowadays. Whether or not the board layout will allow for swapping with original chips, only time will tell.
Not like there's any other way to do it without software emulation. Whether you use FPGA directly or bake an FPGA core onto an ASIC, SOMETHING needs to replace those Yamaha chips.
Ideal relationship dynamic
I'm kind of afraid they would say pretty much exactly what I did, except they without the derisive connotations. They're not exactly known for being hung up on pretense.
They're sanewashing the search for "tradwives" AKA women who will cook, clean, have children, raise children, never make eye contact with another man and never talk back, complain, or have any meaningful aspirations outside of pleasing her husband or her role in his family.
