Looking again, decathlon has an online listing for one road bike style in the right size for my older child, the Van Rysel. Do you think a road bike or mountain bike would be easier to learn on, or really if it would make any difference at all?

If I wind up needing to go pick up a bike, yes that would be absolutely helpful. We're just looking at upgrading the car to an EV in the not too distant future and don't want to buy something we're not likely to be able to use in short order. 😅
