Spotting UI icebergs: the complexity beneath the clicks Figma designs look real on the surface, but you have to look deeper. Here’s how teams can spot UI icebergs early to prevent unexpected budgetary headaches.

This has been rattling around my head since 2007. Still seeing it happen all the time.

Discovery that doesn’t lead to action isn’t discovery. It’s kabuki with post-it notes.

Why the NASA Graphics Standards Manual of 1976 is still relevant today.

Why the NASA Graphics Standards Manual of 1976 is still relevant today.

The identity manuals and style guides of the late 20th century were a big influence on modern design systems.

NASA’s 1976 Graphics Standards Manual is a great exmple — covering everything from letterheads to spacecraft insignia.

Just for fun, we looked back to see what still holds up today…

I went to the US and all I got was this stupid photo and some seriously weird vibes.

I’ve worked in intranets, digital workplaces, and comms long enough to see the same cycles repeat, the same mistakes made, and the same bright ideas crash and burn.

So here are the hard truths. Are you ready? Let’s go. 🧵

This was a super fun visit My new favourite bit of swag is my @figma.com "Detach Instance" pin badge, narrowly beating out my @zeroheight.com Chippy socks from Converge. I am a total sucker for quality swag.

A letter to The Economist:

Selected ambient works

Legion of followers of braindance may have spat out their cornflakes when they saw their strange but nonetheless very real music genre declared all but non-existent in the august pages of The Economist (“(Don’t) name that tune”, January 25th). Braindance does exist, sold perhaps millions of records, and was the odd brainchild of Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label, which even some of the once hip but now slightly less fleet-of-foot CEOs and business leaders who read your newspaper will surely remember.

I spat out my cornflakes when I saw the original "braindance" diss, then again when I saw this letter.

Understanding the trade-offs of using Tailwind CSS Tailwind helps you build web pages quickly with a utility-first approach — but is it right for your project? Here we explore its benefits and trade-offs.

Publishing an article about Tailwind after I insisted that we stick my email address at the bottom of every page was maybe not my best plan ever. Let's see what happens.
