Given the cultural impact that Rent has had over the last 30 years, I think it’s fair to revisit it in a way that’s respectful of the 2005 film while also being faithful to the original production.

After what I saw in his adaptation of Tick Tick Boom it was clear that Lin had the vision to bring that time period and that world back to life and he had the trust of Jonathan Larson’s family to be the shepherd of his work. I think Rent deserves that type of attention and care.

I probably shouldn’t say this out loud but I really want Lin Manuel Miranda to direct a film adaptation of Rent. Chris Columbus was a weird choice for the 2005 film to begin with and they hamstrung themselves by casting the (much older) original cast in the same roles from a decade earlier.
