While sand has been trucked in and repairs made, the beach had eroded 50+ yards and one of the lighthouse legs was detached and sunken into the water. Even 2 years later much of the island is still in disrepair. I hope my next visit will see more local businesses returned and doing well.

Have you wondered about the difference on Sanibel Island before and after Hurricane Ian struck? One image I could share is the lighthouse on the eastern point of the island. Almost all original vegetation is is gone as well as the old light keepers houses. Left - July 2022, Right - July 2024
