One of the most freeing things possible is accepting that the world and the people around you will never fit your expectations.
A million different outcomes, an infinite number of life experiences, all swirling around you in absolute chaos. Have no expectations, only realities.

As Canadians rally to stand up to the threat from Washington Poilievre is trying desperately to walk in Trump's shoes.
Doofus. A total doofus.
The best possible explanation is that Peter Thiel is a barrow wight
Palantir put out the most cartoonishly evil statement possible. They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed.
We must get rid of Palantir altogether.

Canada’s elbows-elevated ambition to secure digital & technological sovereignty faces a lot of practical hurdles.
But, at a minimum, it requires disentangling government and public services from at least this one company. If they continue to operate here, everything else is just hand-waving.
Other sports have always had problems with far right ideology, but MMA and the UFC are the iconification of what the far right wants every sport to turn into.
Sports are more and more becoming a major pipeline for extremism. Watch the UFC and see the future they want.
Every event has some sort of far right podcast bro or politician, and the fighters all bend the knee like fanboys to whatever evil human being sitting cageside. Coaches are pushing far right ideology and gyms are becoming centres for radicalization and extremism.
I promised myself I would stop watching the UFC before their White House event, and last night was the catalyst that finally got me to stop. Stripping the Canadian flag away from a fighter just shows the UFC has completed its transition to a fascist rally. It’s no longer the sport of MMA.
This is a major line being crossed by Alberta's UCP government. Throwing out the work of an independent boundaries committee is authoritarian and extremely anti-democratic.
2/ I raised the urgent need to stop the privatization of health care by dusting off and actually enforcing the Canada Health Act. And I reiterated our position that Canada must take a clear moral stand against illegal wars (and the countries that start them) in this age of impunity.
Our radars got a potentially fast XFG emerging from South America. I was just thinking about 435S being more adaptive on S:L441I backbone (XFG.6) that this one, that we were tracking since the first sample from Catalunya, popped up
Basically it's XFG + S:L441I + S:A435S + S:S446N

I apologize i missed it initially but the ORF9b paper by @ryanhisner.bsky.social and @darrenmartin.bsky.social is a BANGER! Pure masterpiece, months and years of work well communicated! and new findings not disclosed to public earlier a must read! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
one of many reasons i will never accept abandoning my trans siblings or the broader queer community for the purposes of "a bigger tent"
Viktor Orbán to try to regain seat in Hungarian parliament by running in Alberta’s Battle River—Crowfoot by-election.
The last time I tried to engage with Jay Bhattacharya in dialogue I ended up on administrative leave. 🤷♀️
Idiocracy but make it more stupid
April 10th Update:
Both NWSS and WWScan data sets suggest the lowest transmission levels in more than 4 years. BA.3.2 (Cicada) modestly impacting primarily the under 18 group.
Estimates:
🔸118,000 new infections/day
🔸~1 in 550 currently reasonably infectious (5 day window)
When you hear how little that would cost it’s honestly insane we aren’t doing this.
Picture of a burning hillside where a warehouse used to be A California distribution warehouse for the consumer products of giant Kimberly-Clark burned to the ground on Tuesday and an employee has been taken into custody under suspicion of arson. The sixth alarm fire required 175 firefighters to contain. A video circulating online, reportedly taken by the agreed worker shows them setting fire to several pallets of toilet paper while calmly repeating "all you had to do was pay us enough to live."
"All you had to do was pay us enough to live"
Forces of capitalism, these are the Canaries in your coal mine.
Pay attention to them.
Might be important.
Just might be.

Israel is a rogue state and is deliberately trying to break the ceasefire and use the opportunity to annex part of Lebanon.
The Great Barrington Declaration dudes who are now running & ruining public health—& censoring vaccine science—made it pretty clear during the pandemic that they wanted public health to be “dismantled” & their accusation that they were being “censored” was in fact a confession of things to come 😢
Summary about BA.3.2 disproportionately infecting kids. My first ever blog.

@ryanhisner.bsky.social convinced me. It's the Orf7-8 deletion. This is GW.5.1.1 which had a similar deletion compared to HV.1.1, which circulated at the same time.
I’m amazed.
It’s really true: BA.3.2 (new COVID lineage) is infecting children at a much higher rate than previous lineages.
I’m late to this party, but I couldn’t really believe it was true until I did the analysis for myself.
1/
The original transposition results in 48 UCP seats and 41 NDP seats
The UCP minority's boundary suggestion would be 57 UCP and 32 NDP
Tapping the sign
Ontario primarily sequences samples from the elderly (>50% from 80+) so the numbers in the young are small. Still, we seem the same BA.3.2 pattern:
BA.3.2 is only 6.5% of all seqs but 50% of seqs from ages 5-11 & >20% for 0-4 & 12-19.
All credit to @paullmma.bsky.social for sharing this data.

Groundbreaking brand new tool by @mikehoney.bsky.social :
FOr the first time we have a pandemic to investigate age preferences of a variant. It is especially relevant now that BA.3.2 shows a marked prevalence in infecting kids.
In the meanwhile @ryanhisner.bsky.social and others discovered some peculiar preference of BA.3.2 toward kids , there is now something new growing apparently fast:
it is PQ.16.1.1 with this spike: 22N 59S 184S 253G 417T 420N 435S 456L 478T 493E
nextstrain.org/fetch/genome...
The rapid increase in BA.3.2 in New York is in fact driven entirely by infections in children, primarily ages 2-17.
Green bar shows how often each age group appears in BA.3.2 vs non-BA.3.2 seqs. Ratio of 1 would mean they appear at equal rates, while 5 means that age appears 5x more often in BA.3.2
