I do think tech companies are underestimating the amount of
- new account fatigue
- new app fatigue
- useless upgrade fatigue
- terms of service fatigue

This is so grim and driven by political ideology and bigotry, not by an honest desire to support literacy or the well-being of readers.
Coming in October 2026 from Routledge: Fanfiction and fan practices for language teaching and learning 😊

Back in 2020 we published a special issue of "Critical perspectives on AI in education" in Learning, Media & Technology - now we've got a call out for a follow-up that I hope really advances fresh forms of AIed critique @lmt-journal.bsky.social think.taylorandfrancis.com/special_issu...
The image shows a flyer designed to match the homepage of Archive of Our Own, including the logo and banner from the website. The left column says “Survey Participants Needed! (@fanstudies.bsky.social @scmsfaas.bsky.social can i get a boost for this student's research solicitation?)
I wish I could have been there for this! I am so ready to discuss #HeatedRivalry with other fans!
People make fun of government agencies for still being on Flickr but photos produced by the government are copyright-free and I have yet to see a better photo-centric platform for delivering higher resolution photos that anyone can easily download.
Sincerely… NASA couldn’t have chosen a better team of people for this mission. They have been a bright light in the shadowy time here. It’s been a joy to watch.

Today I have a lot of work to focus on, which is good. But I also learned that Tim Horton's is coming to Maryland! This is going to be the perfect place for a #HeatedRivalry book discussion meetup. 😊
A bottle of wine with the label reading McPherson Brut Sparkling Wine Texas.
More Artemis II fangirl behavior: yesterday I picked up a bottle of sparkling wine from Texas (home of NASA Mission Control) to celebrate the first lunar flyby to happen in my lifetime. 🥂
I have now purchased a cute little Rise plushie like the one floating around on Artemis II. This is officially fannish behavior.

#Artemis II - We have the first image from yesterdays Lunar flyby captured by the crew on Orion
EARTHSET.
April 6, 2026.
Humanity, from the other side. First photo from the far side of the Moon. Captured from Orion as Earth dips beyond the lunar horizon.
🚀🌕🌍
Just quietly crying and smiling as I scroll through my social media, reading quotes by the Artemis II crew and Mission Control.
I'm collecting Ao3 author notes that assures readers that the piece of fanfiction they are reading was written by a human and not AI. My current favorite:
"Everything I write is messily, wonderfully human. In the words of a wise chaotic freak, F U C K AI to death."
This is now an Artemis II stan account. 🥹

It should be amazing to watch!
Meaningfully playful: Gender, sexuality, and civic imaginations in Korean and Chinese fandom cultures. Do Own (Donna) Kim (University of Illinois Chicago, USA), Fang Wu (Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China)
The authors discuss South Korean and Chinese fandom cultures’ intertwinement with civic engagements, the role that gender and sexuality play in this process, and how such civic imaginations emerge domestically and transculturally.

How am I spending my Saturday evening? I'm in a bookstore alternating grading student papers with reading chapters in Role Model.
I have tumbled further down the #HeatedRivalry fandom rabbit hole and joined an HR discord. Among their rules is that posting of anything AI generated (fanart, fanfic) is strictly prohibited.
I viewed the HBO Harry Potter trailer and Snape promo photo so no one else has to. Here is my review: Pale/faded/poorly lit imitation of the movies. The kids' hairstyles/wigs are distractingly awful. Snape with zippers instead of buttons is an immediate no. -394/10 👎
Such perfect timing. I finish my book and immediately fall headfirst into a new fandom. #HeatedRivalry
From the author's notes of a Heated Rivalry fanfic published February 2026 on Ao3:
"there was no AI involved in this fic whatsoever. support real human artists and writers!"
In a further fanfiction update, I have now discovered a new trope that I want to read more of: Ilya Rozanov is one of the girls.
Recs please!
A year ago, I gave a quick and dirty sneak peek powerpoint talk about my book (WIP) at the Sherlock Fan Con #221BCon. This year I am finally finished and next year I hope to share it in greater detail with fellow Sherlock fans!
I am happy to report that I binged 90,000+ words of fanfic last night. Time to find some more!
I was at a #NoKings rally yesterday and rather than writing another essay about why this matters I will just say that it is pure joy to meet the people who want to stand out and the people who are doing the work. Thank you.
after much deliberation and giving AI the benefit of the doubt, Wikipedia editors have had enough of AI slop. New policy bans LLM generated content, periodt www.404media.co/wikipedia-ba...
Almost finished reading Heated Rivalry. Headed over to Ao3 to check out the fic situation, and there is A LOT. 😍 Bookmarking has begun, and I'm excited. It's been a while since I felt that sweet urge to read ALL THE FANFICTION.
I am sure this is the most fun anyone has ever had at a mammogram.
